The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
A narrow mind member here 4 years ago accused me of killing people because i spoke about Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine instead of remdesivir and injection ... He confused me with a pro Trump at this time.. Guess who was right ? @mahgister  ...
The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
But while very expensive gear is not a magic solution to getting better sound better gear is a very important element. And long posts about acoustics and the brain don’t justify ignoring the gear factor. +1 @hilde45  .
The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
there are worse addictions to have than high end audio gear. +1 on that, @jond  .
At what point do you...
Back when I had more money than brains (and that's going back a while . . . now I don't have an excess of either) I always (except for once) bought new. The exception was a pair of ARC VTM120s that I bought from the classified section in Stereophi...
12AX7A preamp tubes - ribbed vs smooth plate
I thought preempt tubes were a way to describe use of this tube within an amplifier (ie taking the week analogue level signal from the pre-amplifier and turning it into a stronger line Signal) and is this also considered to be a signal tube? I’...
12AX7A preamp tubes - ribbed vs smooth plate
. . . ohhh, so they are MC9011s? I just did a cursory read on them--interesting amps.  Anyway, Mac is calling the two 12AX7s the signal tubes for the amp.  Which is not what I would call a "preamp tube"  (I would call a preamp tube a tube in the p...
Are there other people like me ? Amazed by their low cost system :)
I will really like to hear others people experience with a relatively low cost piece of gear or a relatively low cost system... "relatively" means the price matter not, That’s an interesting definition of "relatively." So if the cost doesn’t m...
12AX7A preamp tubes - ribbed vs smooth plate
It's a mono block amplifier with 8 KT 88 and 6 small tubes (  4 rectifier, 2 preamp). I assume the "2 preamp" tubes are the amps input tubes or driver tubes?
I Don't Understand What Determines When A Thread Gets The Axe
I guess the "Made In China" thread was the lastest to bite the dust. . . . (I wonder why.)
12AX7A preamp tubes - ribbed vs smooth plate
@immatthewj amps use a variety of small signal tubes in their inputs it's also possible the OP is referring to an integrated amp. If this is the same amp(s?) that OP was referring to a while back ago with (I think I remember him saying) 16 outp...

preamp tubes for an amplifier ?

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks" Ha ha!
How important is the efficiency of a speaker to you?
If you want/like 8 ohm 86 dB sensitivity speakers you will most likely have to go with a high watt output solid state amp (>150 watts).  It takes 150 wpc plus (ss) to drive a speaker rated at 86 db?
How does a preamp die from sitting unused for a few months?
OP, did you solve the mystery?
B&W 802 D2 Capacitors Worth Upgrading?
@allenf1963 , I think that part of the tubed pre in front of SS amp appeal might be related to heat and maintenance. Meaning that an amp that utilizes output tubes can run pretty hot and also requires occasional bias checks & adjustments and a...
