Most Musical 6NS7 tube for a Preamp? I have been back to running NOS. Sylvania Bad Boys in the output stage I lucked into a pair of those ('52s I think) and have been running them in the balanced input sockets iof my SLP05. I love them. "The Iron Fist" is what the individual w...
???Pre Amp Service??? I just now stuck an edit in there about my pre being noisy when I got it running again due to bad tubes, but that would not have been related to sitting. Your question would be better answered by someone like @atmasphere ,as all I know how to do...
???Pre Amp Service??? I know that there have been threads on this very subject, and I remember some one advising that if a component was coming out of a long period in mothballs it was good practice to use a "variac" (I am not sure about the spelling) between the compo...
speakers and cables How is your Revel working out? @grislybutter , the last day to send them back has passed, so I guess they are mine now. After the session that I had "officially" tallied at least 100 hours on them I hooked my B&Ws back up and I have to te...
Is there a clear definition of what "Integrated" means? Oops--I just cross posted with @soix . Yes, that's what I always thought.
Is there a clear definition of what "Integrated" means? I was always under the impression that all a unit had to have to be integrated was an input stage and an amplification (output) stage and thus would include a volume control pot. But I could be wrong--I often am.
Looking for 5AR4 rectifier tube most like solid state It’s getting closer to "good enough". We’ll see if the Mullard takes it over the finish line. Otherwise, a pivot to another preamp may be required. Good luck in those regards. Let us know how it goes for you. I have read posts from both side...
Looking for 5AR4 rectifier tube most like solid state . . . I just thought of a similar thread (questions about 5AR4 for a SLP05) a while back ago. It may or may not be helpful to you, so I'll post a link to the discussion: 5AR4 for Cary SLP05 thread
speakers and cables @grizzly: any luck with experimenting with placement?
Where Do I Go from Here? I sometimes question the sanity of that I can relate to that.
Looking for 5AR4 rectifier tube most like solid state I've had a SLP05 for a few years now (at least three, if I remember correctly) with the Ultimate Upgrade, and I love the sound of mine. I'd go so far to say as it may have been the most significant upgrade I ever made. Unlike you, I am not findi...
Recommend me a tube integrated amplifier Someone always answered the phone when I needed to speak to someone. That is always worth considering.
Recommend me a tube integrated amplifier I echo the Cary SLI-100 option. The presentation is very well rounded, and there's lots of power to spare. I just got another email today from Cary Direct advertising the SLI 100. SLI 100
Have you noticed as your system improves? My short answer is that I used to listen a lot louder than I do now. (Kind of similar to you, I put my system into mothballs back in 2010 and brought it back out in late 2017. Since then I have upgraded to better pieces of gear, so I do not know...
speakers and cables . . . @grislybutter , after I posted that last post, I got to wondering which speaker I was thinking of. I did some googles and now I am pretty sure it was actually the B&W 801 Matrix. Not that it has any relevance to this thread, here is a pi... |
