Audio Research - should I replace the valves?
No sweat, @cey  . anyway, the last time I bought output tubes was a couple of years ago; I bought a dozen of the reissued Tungsol EL34s from Jim McShane to replace a dozen of the reissued Mullards that I bought from Uncle Kevin that didn't last v...
Audio Research - should I replace the valves?
@ghdprentice upscale audio quite ("paused") sellin tubes this past april.  @cey  , when was the last time you checked?  Uncle Kevin has been selling tubes again for a while now.
Audio Research - should I replace the valves?
I've owned and steadily enjoyed a McIntosh MC275 tube amp and C2600 tube preamp since late 2017.  I've never tried to estimate the cumulative hrs. of listening, but it's up there.  I purchased a complete replacement set of replacement tubes for b...
Audio Research - should I replace the valves?
Thanks all. Not sure whether biasing the valves is beyond my skills but will have a read. Stupid question but assume you fit them and then do the bias? (Told you I might not be up to the job!) Could be that the bias has gotten way low & jus...
New Dennis Had amps
give credit where it is due, dennis had founded cary audio, and was the sole owner before its sale @jjss49 that was good to point that out.
Isolated ground in dedicated room/new construction?
@harpo75  , actually mine is a SLA-70B Signature, which may be the reason it has  the bias pot and the bias jack accessible behind the transformers?  That must have been a pita to bias!  I don't remember what all the differences were with the Sign...
Isolated ground in dedicated room/new construction?
Another informational interesting thread. Among other things, this got me taking a look back in time at the manual for my first tube amp (which I stilt own & have owned for going on 30 years,a Cary SLA 70B) and under "GND" the manual states t...
To couple, or not to couple, that is the question
How about for monitors on stands? Between the stand & floor or between stand & speaker?
Dedicated circuits
@jea48  , thank you for clarifying that for us.
Dedicated circuits
where to buy a magnetic breaker? @gp4jesus  , what I was getting at is I think that the problem is going to be, if for legal reasons you feel constrained to have the brand of your CB  match your box, that magnetic CBs may not be available in th...
Dedicated circuits
In my limited experience in my previous & current domiciles, I think the wrong brand bracket won’t fit/work. @gp4jesus  you might be right,  I don’t do much of this, but once upon a time I was warned that (as an example) putting a GE circui...
Dedicated circuits
@gp4jesus   for homeowners insurance purposes, make sure that you use the same brand of breaker that your box is.
Microphonic from Vacuum Tubes?
Tube(s) getting too hot….all you have to do is wait for pop then generously spray all the tubes with water. The bad tube(s) will obviously be obscured by a cloud of vapor. Seriously? @sevestan , you are joking, right?
Dedicated circuits
@mesch and @everyone else who took the time to clarify this concept for me--thank you. I may be a little bit dyslectic when it comes to this stuff--the way I was seeing it was that with a 20A outlet & 12-2 connecting it to the box, I had a 20A...
Dedicated circuits
. . . you see, my misunderstanding was that I was considering the outlet part of the Romex. In other words, since is legit to run heavier Romex in a circuit than what the breaker is rated for, I was thinking that the same would apply to the outlet...
