NEw ac/dc remasters...
I am not a hard-core "analog guy" BUT AC/DC's "Back In Black" should only be listened to from vinyl. None of the cd's (even the current remaster's and japanese) seem to get it right.
unusual trio?
Must second Morphine. Very unique sound.
Finally got the new Steel Dan DVDA
DaryllHiFi - Have you heard Beck "Sea Change" ? It's pretty unbeatable. Even over the Dan. (Which I love).

Odyessy/Stratos OR Monarchy Delux monos
I've heard both in various incarnations. I'd definitely go with the Odyssey even though the Monarchy is a Class A electronic design. I find the Monarchy too layed-back. I had auditioned the mono's with 4 types of speaker's. (Small Totems, JM Lab 6...
Philips 963 or NAD 541i
I have to agree with Jgeyer. Forget the NAD. On the otherhand I have (and love) the Phillips 963 MarkIII AND really like the Music Hall CD-25. Don't forget, the Phillips models allow you to check out SACD. (Beck "Sea Change" will blow you away. Ev...
how does paypal work
I have never had a problem and love it's ease of use BUT Ed sawyer is right. I've personally heard horror stories. Probably one in a few thousand go wrong BUT I'd hate to be that person. I still use it; with trepidation.
Which artists do you just not get?
Please Viggen, give Orff's "Carman Burana" a try. It turned me into a hunter of those rare pieces of musical, non-vocal domineered, opera. (Ooops, I said that word again)!Having said that - Sorry to have driven so many to write so much. Many of you...
Which artists do you just not get?
Here's the purpose Ben_Campbell: To help each other find something of value within what they don't like. Example: Viggen should listen to Orff's Carmen Burina or the opera Carman.Me? I can't understand the Mapleshade label (although the sound is g...
5 best underrated or unknown bands and why?
Gene - Artistic guitar rock. All great albums. You should start with the first one.
Do you keep your amps and preamps on all the time
Yes. I leave everything on 24/7. The tube pre and ss amp REALLY need it. I suspect the SACD doesn't after break-in BUT , as I've stated here before from my experience working in recording studio's, turning equipment on and off shortens the life of...
Are Recording Engineers "Certified"?
No. Definitely not. (I worked those 16h/7day weeks for 5yrs). No two people "hear" the same. Just like colour, sound is very subjective. A certificate would be meaningless.
Any one make a good sounding single disc SACD?
The Phillips 963 is smooth and has a wide soundstage. Plus the low end is more detailed compared to others for $400.
Tom Waits on Austin City Limits
You got it right Herman! That is Rickie Lee's boy Chuck E. Weiss. And guys, the only Tom Waits song I can handle is "Step Right Up" and that's cause it's so funny. I find he's a much better actor.
The passing of another legend...
I too, started with the DH200 Sherod. My best freind turned me onto the Dynaco 70. It was far ahead of it's time. David is blessed with all the happiness he's given us.
