dCS Rossini vs. Berkeley Reference dac 2
Yeah. I was #82 in the queue. Got tired of waiting. Contacted my dealer, Galen Carol. Swapped my V1 for V2 for $8K. Don't regret it for a second. The Reference 2 sounds like a whole different processor. When I got it, I had my old V1 in house also...
dCS Rossini vs. Berkeley Reference dac 2
The Berkeley upgrade is Substantial, not subtle. You will be pleased. I have no cabling issue. If I drive my Atma Sphere MA-1 amps, the sound is both much more dynamic and focused using the Ayre preamp in the chain. So I am not universally bemoani...
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
Four More Weeks til I get my D'Agostino S-250. In the mean time, I just heard the best stereo experience of my lifetime. PS Audio Perfectwave transport sending bits to a Berkeley Alpha Reference 2 DAC. The Berkeley is driving directly a pair of Ay...
dCS Rossini vs. Berkeley Reference dac 2
Spell check. Mids, to be clear. Also, the Berkeley is Awesome driving amps directly. I prefer it driving my Ayre MX-R Twenties directly, to running through an Ayre KX-R Twenty preamp.
dCS Rossini vs. Berkeley Reference dac 2
I haven't heard the dCS. But I just received a Berkeley Reference 2, swapped from an original Reference. The difference is Not Subtle. Huge Upgrade. Much more musical. The trace of hardness in the upper mods and highs is gone. I'm super satisfied ...
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
Why are the Ayre amps good with Vandersteens? Are the Vandys darker? Does the illuminating quality of the Ayres compliment that?
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
What are the sonic differences between the D'Agostino Momentum S-250 stereo amp and mono 400's? Khrys posted that he preferred the treble of the S-250.
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
The winner, at least for my ears and in my system, has yet to be determined. But the Ayre MX-R Twenties certainly play at the upper level and are competitive with anyone. So far, I have auditioned and declined Krell, Mark Levinson, Pass Labs, and ...
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
The best treble I've heard thus far is from my Atma Sphere MA-1 3.3s with power supply capacitor and resistor upgrades. If the S-250 bests that, It will be an Amazing amp. I know the bass will be excellent, coming from D'Agostino.
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
I placed an order for a D'Agostino Momentum S-250. It will be about a month before it's in my hands. I'll be able to directly compare it to Ayre MX-R Twenties and Atma Sphere MA-1 3.3s driving Wilson Alexia's, Will report what I hear.
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
Your experience is contrary to mine. I've found Ayre customer service, Michael especially, to deliver exemplary service and support. I've owned Ayre back since the K-1, V-1 days. They have done several upgrades for me, given tech support over the ...
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
Is there a significant sound difference between the D'Agostino Momentum stereo amp, the S-250, and the mono 400s? As efficient as the Wilson's are, they don't need a ton of power to sound good.
D'Agostino vs. Ayre
I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the Ayre's. They are incicively addicting and very musical, but sometimes a touch lean in the mids and sometimes a tad bit harsh on top. I plan to power a pair of Wilson Alexia's. And right now, I hav...
Reflektor tubes in Audio Research Reference SE
After listening for a couple months, and swapping back and forth, I consider the tube change quite significant. The Reflektor tubes, along with the Synergistic Research Black Quantum fuse are the most significant upgrades I've made, even more so t...
KT150 Tube Matching
I recently purchased a "matched" quad of KT150 tubes from a well known, seemingly well respected tube vendor. My goal is not to bash him, but to educate myself. One of the "matched" tubes has a transconductance 20% under the average of the other t...
