More power for moderate listening levels?
I'm hoping the higher power amp (15W Class A before switching) shares some of the sonic character of the current amp. Class AB amps don't 'switch' per se. The slide into Class B. Depending on the design and the load, the transition can be smoot...
More power for moderate listening levels?
I have found that a high powered amp, even at low listening levels, provides a sense of dynamics that a low powered amp doesn't have And I'm fairly certain that the amps are likely sonically chalk and cheese.
Adding a sub woofer?
I don't know that I have ever appreciated a change in the midrange of my system with the subs active. When done properly, i.e. not using idiotic full range pass through the sub but a crossover that removes the bass & possibly some of the m...

Tekton makes some great speakers IF one likes that sort of thing. In the Monitor review, Stereophile determined "My estimate of the Impact's sensitivity was 87.5dB(B)/2.83V/m, considerably lower than the specified 94dB." https://www.stereophile....
More power for moderate listening levels?
As more power is fed to the voice coil, it heats up and that heating increases resistance which reduces the amount of power that can be delivered to the driver. The less efficient the speaker, the greater the compression. Horsefeathers. Very e...
Adding a sub woofer?
By what metric do you ascribe orientation preference?IMO in the last 20 years, REL has degenerated into BuzzWord Bingo marketing hype preying on the uniformed:" PerfectFilter performs two seemingly disparate qualities; extending the strong, even r...
Adding a sub woofer?
As an REW alternative, the ML subs have an extra cost accessory called Perfect Bass Kit which includes Anthem Room Correction.Pretty good results can be obtained with the PBK provided one does a bit of "book learnin'" with a room simulation applic...
Adding a sub woofer?
Optimum solution is to roll the very bottom out of the main amplifiers and feed a low level signal to the sub. This is effectively an increase in main amplifier power if you listen to material with real low end, i.e. deeper than most 40Hz limited ...

There can be a bad connection inside one of the connected devices.Get a VOM and clip leads. Measure conductor and shield end to end on the interconnects while vigorously wiggling the connectors. Resistance should remain ZERO.Repeat with each conne...
Dynamic range - effect on different speaker cables - even very high quality ones
who is that pathetic author anyway? Rod Elliott. A genuine nice guy. Most of the time, pretty informative, but I think he missed the boat in that article, written in 1999 and last updated in 2004.In his defense, his perspective* will save audio...
Dynamic range - effect on different speaker cables - even very high quality ones
People, your ears and the drivers are compressing LONG BEFORE the cable, assuming anything much larger than 20ga/8Ω.
Parasound's Hint 6's new volume control provides huge sonic advances?
In all your above posts you have criticised whatever has been mentioned, so please tell us what perfect attenuation you use. There is no perfect attenuation.I use a self designed and built for my gear discrete matched 1% resistor silver contact s...
Parasound's Hint 6's new volume control provides huge sonic advances?
Photocells are semiconductors & thermally sensitive. It is very difficult to ascribe sonic purity to a particular attenuation method as the surrounding circuitry and packaging all affect the sound.

Reading an Ayre VGT circuit description here https://www.soundstageultra.com/index.php/equipment-menu/90-ayre-acoustics-kx-r-preamplifier-and-mx-r-mono-amplifiers in the paragraph that begins "First, in a traditional preamplifier, " it sounds like...
Dynamic range - effect on different speaker cables - even very high quality ones
I said the dcs vivaldi upsampler increased the dynamic range Nonsense. The quote says it has increased dynamic range meaning that it can, with adequate source material, play with reduced noise or with the same noise @ 1v out but capable of 10v ...
