Why have capacitors improved so much over the years?
Where are they used?Did you verify values? Please detail evaluation. Please note that you appear to be a dealer of some sort:"As a dealer I do realize the challenge it presents when you attempt to set up a high end system in a store environment. Tha...
Why have capacitors improved so much over the years?
I didn’t realize that any crossover destroys the signal. Not all. Time correction can be done, but it requires thinking "outside the box"Nearly 50 years ago Dahlquist did the DQ-10. Nearly 40, John Bau did the Spica TC-50 and later the Angelus....
Why have capacitors improved so much over the years?
If there were a way to eliminate capacitors, that would be miraculous. There is. They are called oscillators. So much blather. So little knowledge.
Very new to high end audio - Recomendations
What makes a 'loudspeaker' any different to a studio monitor, or bookshelf etc, they look basically the same? In the old days, monitors were for analysis, loudspeakers for listening. In the 80's Yamaha NS-10 loudspeakers became ubiquitous pop mu...
Very new to high end audio - Recomendations
Knowledge is almost zilch when it comes to speakers/amps etc. You’ll fit right in. [Sorry, couldn’t resist]Most here are FanBoys. Ignore ALL specific recommendations. No one has your taste in music, response, level or R O O M !IMO, powered speake...
Subwoofers with room correction built in?
Martin-Logan X series can be used with a smartphone app that is OK. Much better results w Perfect Bass Kit.The smartphone app is good for tweaking phase and level to fully integrate with mains. In two years, the only negative is they are light and ...
Why have capacitors improved so much over the years?
While the referenced page is extensive, it's also a lot of hooey as components perform in concert with their containing circuit. There is no absolute and cost is seldom an arbiter of quality.More than once, "Wow!" devolved
Why have capacitors improved so much over the years?
Engineers who designed professional gear 40 and 50 years ago cared. Back then I knew some then 'old timers' who were aware. Can't comment on earlier, but no doubt some were aware.I had a tube 'guru' tweak my Citation II with better resistors, caps...

Everything has improved over the years.Defects introduce colorations. Some prefer the colorations.

B&W speakers sounding very harsh?
I think OTHERS have demonstrated several time by comment alone, they, cannot hear certain things and or usually HAVEN'T been around enough equipment to tell the difference. BTW there are ZERO 24 hour cable reports.. weeks per pair minimum just t...
B&W speakers sounding very harsh?
I think everyone here would agree that trying to grade out a system at 50 hours is foolish. All new components, speakers, cables... need 2,3 or 4 times that much time to effectively burn in to produce their true sound. Utter nonsense
Class D amps that are superior to all or most?
I should mention that new gear got powered for a full week before listening. Amps got a 24hr 10% power burn-in on a load.I travelled overseas a lot, sometimes for several weeks. ALL gear off and unplugged. 24 hour toast up upon return, then back t...
Class D amps that are superior to all or most?
I have a NuPrime ST-10 Class D. It drives the woofers only. I tweaked it a bit by venting the case, adding a tiny fan and removing the balanced input. Before the venting, the amp became a bit nasty once the case hit 40°C. Not no more.I redesigned ...
Class D amps that are superior to all or most?
As Ric says,  the caps will still last 15 years or so! No worries. The caps are cheap to replace folks. And all the while the sound degrades as you boil away the electrolyte.IMO, as a design engineer, replacing caps is not a mod. While it may a...
