Have you found your "End-Game" speakers yet? I have. And it feels so good!!!
Since the late 60s my ultimate was the JBL Paragon. Never heard it. Never saw one in person. Still want one. I did recently have a pair of JBL L300. Loved them. Downsized house so they had to go. Since the mid 70s I have been using JBL L222 Disco.  
Speakers 10 years old or older that can compete with todays best,
Perfectly happy with my 70s JBL L222 Disco.

Late 60s went to a concert at the Stock Yards in Chicago. I was overwhelmed by the speaker system. They were JBL horns, etc. I wrote a letter to JBL asking what the system was. I actually got a return letter! They guessed what the system was based...
