Mcintosh preamp C500 c22 mk V
As a user, abuser and believer of "old/vintage", You can't go wrong on a deal on a McIntosh.  I have listened to some of the "new" and at the end of the day its about matching things up.  The new McIntosh has the "newer soldering material", and so...
My Last CD player
If you want to save some money and buy used.  The Meridian 506 in either the 20 bit or 24 bit.  The 24 bit was an "upgrade", but I find myself listening more to the 20 bit unit.  Closest sound I have heard to vinyl from a cd player.  That said, I ...
Which speaker among Dali, Dynaudio and Acoustic Energy should I choose?
To clarify, based on some of the comments.  Yes, the amp will more than drive any of these speakers and sound great.  All the speakers mentioned are good.  That said, its about finding the best speakers for equipment you already have.  I agree wit...
Which speaker among Dali, Dynaudio and Acoustic Energy should I choose?
I hate to say but I wouldn't do any of these.  You have a pure Class A to 20 watts.  I would be searching for higher sensitivity.  The highest sensitivity you have listed is the Acoustic Energy Reference 3 at 90 db/.  The Dali is 88.5 and the Dyna...
B&W 700 Series Tweeter Repair
B&W used to sell parts.  I had some book shelves from them that had a bad driver and bought a replacement.  You might try calling them.  I seem to remember having to get past lots of stupid people to get to a parts department.  It was like the...
Bryston 7B (not SST or higher) still Viable Option
I take it this is something you sampled before and love the sound? Anything such as this has its own sound.  I love playing with different amps and speakers, looking for that "oh" spot.  Hard to go wrong with a name like Bryston. That said, y...
What is your favorite album cover?
The Beatles White Album.  Sums thing up nicely.  Make it about the music.  Aside from that there is Age Nowhere, Airport Sounds.  Misery is an exceptional song and also well recorded.   https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a2863203560_10.jpg
The Most "Analog" CD Player?
Meridian 506 20 bit, just my opinion.  Also have a 24 bit but don't notice any appreciable difference.  They can be picked up on the used market.  Took about 5 years of searching to find the 24 bit that was up to standards.
And yet, another speaker query
The closest I have gotten to something that is a all arounder is Altec A-7 500's (16ohm), hooked to a Decware SE34I.5, with play back coming from a Meridian 506 20 bit cd player.  That said, it is about matching the trinity of these, that makes th...
Disappointment with Pass Labs - I'm looking for something else
If I were you, which I'm not, I would narrow the field first.  You have some highly sensitive speakers and they can do low wattage to high.  Get a single-ended triode tube amp.  For this I would recommend Decware, but I'm admittedly partial.  From...
Tube amp Friendly Speaker That Sounds like Klipsch Cornwall
The key is the match.  I used to have a pair of Maggie 3.5R's.  I found them as responsive as a giant hunk of granite.  They loved the power and took a high current to drive.  When you hit the sweet spot though, wow.  It was such an exact speaker ...
high end speakers are overpriced
I get somewhat opinionated on this topic. In particular let’s talk the high end boys with little to zero support or nothing but attitude when you have issues. Top on my list of “take this speaker and shove it” has got to be B&W. Had a driver c...
How I'd spend money given no limits
Call me crazy but it would be more matched systems and not a “one killer system”.  I currently have 5 different systems and love them all. It’s like some crazy harem of sound. Some systems play more intimate and others rock the house. My wife beli...
Does Power Cord Require Burn-In To Sound Good?
Get a power conditioner if you are having issues. I kind of feel the power cord thing is a shame, unless you’re powering some real serious pull.
Has "politically correct" killed the used audio market?
It’s all about approach. When I see I nice system, I ask it, just as Jimmy would, “are you experienced ?”.  If it can’t past the Hendrix test, sell it.
