First Watt Sit-3 paired with Klipsch Cornwall lV? Pretty sure that Steve Guttenberg did a review at one point. Not sure if he has the Cornwall IV's or a earlier version.
Got an itch to buy some new stand mount speakeras Could get some used JBL monitors. Ikea makes a stand that they rest on perfectly, almost like someone at Ikea has a set. I had a pair of 4312's, gave to my son, missed the sound and picked up a pair of 4311's. Same JBL/California sound. Used m...
Upgrading from soundbar So much depends on your space and what is tolerable. For example, I have a Linn system in my family room, which is about the largest size my wife will allow. Just some of the original Linn Kann's so very little space taken up. I'm still amazed ...
upgrade rec from meridian 508.24 I love the Meridian cd player sound and actually have 2 of the 508/24 that aren't working. I have a 508/20 that sounds even better, to me, than the 24. Can't explain that one. I believe you will be hard pressed to find a cd player that does as ...
Klipsch 5.1 and Yamaha R-N602 I have done similar to what you are looking to do. The thing that I did for the speakers was to try and match their sensitivity and have been very happy. My mains are Altec Lansing VOT's and the center and surround are Blumenstein Thrashers. My...
How much gear do you own? I currently have 5 systems that I listen to regularly. Each has its own character, sound stage and good/bad. Some are better for classical, some are better for jazz, and others just rock. My issue is I have not been able to find the "perfect" s...
Would your familiarity with the music played effect your test performance? I view listening music for testing as similar to going on a trip with a map. You know what's there in the music. How high the high gets, how low the low goes and musical and 3-D it "can" be, when listened to on a really nice system. If somethin...
Best Integrated that you've heard under $5k To follow up on my Van Alstine issue. This was over 20 years ago. I had a Model 2 SS amp. Absolutely loved the sound, it was beautiful. Had an issue, called Van Alstine for help. Was told that I might as well trash it. They had no schematics...
Top 3 songs to evaluate a system This is my quick list:David Byrne Lazy - it will test what you are looking at more than anything I know of. The highs and the lows. Be sure and put the volume to 11. Peter Gabriel - Blood of Eden, there is a bass note that not everything can hi...
Best Integrated that you've heard under $5k Van Alstine should either be highly discounted or not bought at all. You think communication halts when you ask for a discount, just hope you don't have an issue. You will find that you own a really expensive boat anchor.
HiFi vs MidFi I like the way the movie "It Might Get Loud" sums it up as 3 great musicians are discussing "best" guitar. Jimmy Page and The Edge both had some great high end desires. Jack White just humbly said, "I like to take a piece of sh*t and see how goo...
Bye Bye Puppy! I used to sell or trade. But you always come back to that one piece of music on what you had that just doesn't sound the same (or correct). What this has turned me into is a buy and hold person. You will miss those pups, if not for but a few pi...
Best Integrated that you've heard under $5k It all depends on your speakers. I have the Decware SE34I.5 and it is the best integrated I have ever heard. That said, it is 6 watts/channel so it requires highly efficient speakers. I have it hooked to some Altec Lansing A7-500's and it is th...
Who Were Your Mentors I would have to say that my best mentor is my ears. They are what they are and have guided me to what I like. What I like though, may not be what your ears like. I started collecting right out of high school and haven't stopped. When I went to...
How long do good speakers last? Mine are over 62 years old and still doing great. I did have a friend that had some surround failure on his JBL L-150's. They highly suggested to keep it out of direct light. UV is not a friend. At the very least use your speaker covers. |
