Testicle Tumor My cousin was diagnosed with testicular cancer a few years ago. It turned out to be malignant, but he went through all the usual therapies and came out of it fine. My best advice is to stay positive. I know--easier said than done. But there have b...
Reference DACS: An overall perspective Good post, Teajay. Personally, I don't think you can lose with any of the DACs you mentioned. Some are better values than others, but each is state of the art. I own the EMM Labs DCC2/CDSD combo, and I couldn't be happier. I've heard a lot of the ...
Absolute Best CD Players Out There Under $12k ? No1willfan:A lot of EMM owners are using either tube preamps or tube amps. Personally, I prefer good solid state, but if you like the warmth and naturalness of tubes in your system, I think they're a good match with the EMM. As you say, it might h...
Absolute Best CD Players Out There Under $12k ? Whitewind:Yeah, I listened to the older dCS stack. I have to try to audition the new setup or find someone who has it. I've heard a number of people accuse the Meitner of being "thin" or "analytical." I certainly wouldn't call it warm or lush, but...
Which musician retired too soon? Cat Stevens would be my choice. I always liked his music. I thought it was an incredibly brave thing for him to leave showbiz for a life in religion. He literally turned his back on countless millions for his faith. I admire him to this day for th...
Absolute Best CD Players Out There Under $12k ? Deb:To whom are you referring as the man who has to "resort to self-promotion like the one is obviously doing at every lame opportunity here." I'd be curious to know.
Best 5 engineered rock albums? My list:Pink Floyd: "Dark Side of the Moon" or "The Wall"Fleetwood Mac: "Rumours" or "Tusk"Many ABBA albumsBuddy Guy: "Blues Singer" (OK, not quite rock, but I couldn't resist)Most Steely Dan albums ("Gaucho" comes immediately to mind)I cheated--t...
Absolute Best CD Players Out There Under $12k ? Whitewind:The dCS gear is absolutely state of the art, but it's interesting: I had the exact opposite impression as you. I compared the full dCS stack with the EMM DCC2/CDSD combo in my system, and I thought the EMM had superior resolution and dyn...
glam rock fans? Fotis:Yeah, the reconstituted Dolls are on tour. I saw them in Detroit a few months ago, and they sounded quite good. It's not the same without Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan--and, to a lesser extent, Arthur Kane--but the band did sound appropria...
System Cleaning I have carpet in my basement, and I vacuum VERY carefully around the system. In tight spaces, I pull out a small floor attachment, and that seems to do the trick. For wood floors and the rack and equipment itself, I use a Swiffer. Works very nicely.
Absolute Best CD Players Out There Under $12k ? Rmaurin:I've heard both in my system, and I preferred the EMM. It was a close call, but I thought it was more dynamic, a little more resolving, and a bit more "accurate" sounding. The Reimyo, to my ears at least, was warmer and had a little bit of...
glam rock fans? There are a lot of great "glam" albums, but one that I listen to a lot is T-Rex's "The Slider." It's absolutely fantastic, with great melodies and arrangements, and really cool, impressionistic lyrics. It's arguable whether it's as good as "Electr...
Absolute Best CD Players Out There Under $12k ? I agree that there really is no "best" at this level. I've heard most of the players on your list, and I chose the EMM Labs DCC2/CDSD combo. (The DAC6/CDSD would work equally well if you don't need a processor.) It's the most revealing, accurate, ...
does anybody still listen R_f_sayles:Your advice is duly noted and appreciated. Some of my CDs are pretty valuable--though not as valuable as equivalent LPs in mint shape--and I have no real plan to get rid of them. In my impetuous and drug-addled youth, I used to turn my ...
does anybody still listen My musical tastes have changed slightly over the years--that sometimes happens as you age and expand your musical palate--and I find myself listening to more classic R&B/soul (Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, etc.) and a wee bit more classical. But,... |
