How to shop for speakers? Tim - I think Atmasphere is right - efficinecy refers to how much power something consumes, and power is measured in watts. Sensitivity refers to how much something is affected by an input. Audio equipment, when run in its normal operating range, ...
How to shop for speakers? 6550c has a point. I expereinced the same thing with Spica TC50s years ago. I olistened to everything I could for miles around, and wasn't happy with any of it. I discovered a new store that had opened, heard the Spicas and knew they were the ones...
Vacuum tube exercise equip at the gym? Well now I'm curious. I think we have Cybex at my gym, I'll have to look. Is it a metalpin to preventover-rotation of part of the machine?
Seasoned ears only Progress is also not even across an entire industry. The best speakers of 25 years ago will still be better than mediocre speakers of today, often regardless of cost. OTOH, mediocre speakers of years ago will only seem worse with time.
component cones/spikes vs. rubber How does a vibration get out of a system without vibrating the system on its way?
Seasoned ears only I have a pair of Spica TC50s, which were the first pair of speakers I ever bought. After listening to everything I could in 1985, I stumbled upon these and instantly knew they were special. Even today, they are in some ways better than anything el...
PASS LABS XA-30.5 vs XA-60.5 Roor - I thnk the key ot all of these posts that seem to disgree with you are teh words like "...given a friendly pair of speakers...", "...given speakers that can be driven properly by..." Perhaps your speakers are a difficult load for the 30.5, ...
The Well Tempered Record Player and Denon DL103 Clearaudio MM cartridges are fairly complinat and highly rated. If you want to go even cheaper, urban legend has it that Clearaudio cartridges are really Audio Tecnicas, so maybe you could look into those, too.
6SN7 Tung Sol Reissue Mullard 12AX7 any comments? Interesting post, Gonzalo. I agree that I prefer old tubes to the new EH/TSRI, alhtough I would rank them in different order than you have them. In reality, though, I have found a mix of types sounds best. One other to try is the Shuguang Treasure...
Speakers for Dance music and other I'd look into Daedalus Acoustics. I'm considering them for my main system now. I heard one of their pro combo amps at a NAMM show years ago, and it got plenty loud without being fatiguing. They were demoing with a violin, and it sounded very much ...
Pass XA60.5's or Cary CAD 500 MB for Maggie 1.7? Hasse - thanks for the link. How do you get to read stuff? Do you have to buy the print magazine, sign up fo ronline subscription, pay to read, what? If you do sign up or somehow get to read the articles online, do you get lots of emails / spam fr...
the smoothest sounding speaker Smooth and resolving do not have opposite connotations, we just think that because in audio gear there tends to be a trade-off. But when I go to Symphony Hall or the Wang Center, I hear rich, vibrant, resonant (hihgly resolved)music that doesn't i...
Berkeley Alpha DAC vs Theta Gen VIII and stuff... Hi all, I borrowed a BADA from my dealer, and am comparing to THeta GenVIII s1. Initial thoughts are BADA is generally more refined sounding, iwth more detailed highs and smoother, easier to listen to upper midrange. From some of the descriptions,...
Manley Stingray II Integrated Amp-Owner's Review Perhaps a whole-house air filtration system. You could throw your vacuum away, and get governemnt contracts for assembling micro-circuits!
Manley Stingray II Integrated Amp-Owner's Review A plexiglas cover would trap too much heat inside. I suppose it could be hinged or removeable for playing, but I'm guessing any manufacturer would be concerned about how many people would leave the cover on and try to calim waranty repairs. But I ... |
