D Edwaqrds - Lighten up. Rives said nothing about the speakers you recommended, and you're jumping all over him. No one said ATC was a fly-by-night company. No one said anything about ATC, except the one GENERAL comment you agreed with, that compo...
Freezer Cryoed Cables...
You made me think of something, PRPixel. Maybe if there are foam dielectrics in the cable, freezing causes the little air bubbles to contract. Maybe it takes a few days for the plastic to fully recover even after reaching room temperature. Out the...
Freezer Cryoed Cables...
The improvement may be caused by simply removing and replacing the cables. I found this to be very effective - I assume it cleans something off the connections which builds up slowly over time and gradually degrades the sound without your noticing...
Re: Spica Angelus speakers. Help
As a major Spica fan and ex-Angelus owner, I would recommend Magnepan 1.6QRs for a large room. They were one of the best speakers I have heard, but didn't work well in my medium sized room. I ended up with Talon Hawks which worked etter in my room...
Besides Audio, what other ''passion'' do you have?
Swing Dance, Antique Clocks, Home Projects
Best Tweak???
Disconnect and reconnect all your wires several times. It cleans up the connection. I discovered this accidentally. Every time I tried different componenets, I ended up marvelling at how good the original system was. Maybe Darrylhifi is seeing the...
Broke and still not happy
You may need to play with the crossover settings on your sub. I had set my crossover phase with a signal generator to give the strongest sound at crossover. I was very unhappy with the sound, although I didn't really tie it in to the lows. On a wh...
Comparing Wadia vs. Meitner
Fmpnd - You have done nothing wrong. Blah, lifeless and dull are not attacks, but an honest appraisal of your experience. It was a great thread until Audiobugged's hearing aid comment. It sounded quite insulting to me, although I think he may have...
what's your favorite album cover?
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass - don't remember the title, but definitely remember a beautiful woman covered in whipped cream!
Cry me a river
Save me a Seat (Homeward Bound) by Sally Fingerett, many things by Emmy Lou Harris, but especially Sweet Old World
50hz deep enough?
One rule I try to keep for upgrades is to not lose something to gain something else. The rate of drop is just as important as the cutoff point. Ported speakers usually drop off much faster than sealed speakers. A ported speaker rated -3dB at 50 Hz ...
Kharmas with Atma-Sphere
Gjrad - Which versions of the M60s do you have? There is a mkII.3 out that is styled similarly to the MA-1s. I was wondering if you have any first hand exsperience with how this compares to older M60s. (Although very recent versions of the old cha...
vintage bargains that are Fun to hear and look at?
You are not alone - look at Pass Labs' Rushmore speaker, and read the design philosophy - warm richj sound, art deco waterfall styling - exactly what you're talking about, only it costs $45,000. I am also in the process of putting together a fun s...
help with speaker problem
It may be the tweeter screaming its head off at the low end of its range. As with a woofer, the lower the frequency, the farther the dome must travel. The point just above crossover is where the tweeter is working hardest. I have heard the sound y...
What am I hearing???
My guess is that piano may be slightly out of tune. What you describe is the beat frequency of 2 or more strings that are not quite in tune. If oyu hit or pluck 1 string then hit or pluck another that is out of tune, they will sound as 2 distinct ...
