There's a sucker born every minute Perhaps they alloy the zinc with tin! 8^) Sounds like Gallo wannabes. I've noticed over the years that high-end trends filter into the very cheapest stuff. For example, a "tube" radio I saw at CIrcuit City for $25.oo. The tubes were plastic cylinde...
Large sweetspot The Bose is an intersting suggestion. While many audiophiles despise Bose, I have heard them sound pretty good. I heard a swing band using them in a large hall recently. (at least they looked like 901s. Do they have anything for pro use that looks...
should i do tube? I'd be careful - see if you can return if not happy. I listened to the i5 earlier this year, and found it to have many of the properties claimed by tube amplifiers - a very natural midrange, and a realistic if not very powerful bass range.I find i...
Non inverting polarity? Eldart - I agree - I didn't believe it until I tried it, and then kept trying it, and the perfect results forced me to believe. I don't know why it should matter - either way the cone is moving back and forth, many times to make even the quickest ...
Speakers Speak & Sing Too Much ??? I remember something like this effect on records when I was a kid (in the 70s), on inexpensive systems, although I think the faint sound happened slightly before the real sound. I don't know what caused it, and I can't remember hearing it on any C...
Non inverting polarity? There are 2 issues being discussed. I think Husk was asking an electrical question about the pin-outs on XLR connectors. I vaguely remember something about not all brands being wired the same, which could cause problems mixing different brands of ...
ultimate final word 2 on best speakers Well la-tee-da, nothing sounds completely lifelike, so some people don't want to play. He probably meant MOST life like, so in that spirit of fun, here're my favorites: Talon Audio Hawk - very detailed, no boxy colorations, very extended highs (I ...
dbx Home Speakers I could be wrong about the specific model. I remember some DBX speakers that were truncated-prism-standing-on-end shaped that were supposed to go next to the wall to make the reflection and the original sound coinicide. It was about 20 years ago, ...
Aging of capacitors within crossover networks Process control bsed manufacturing produces parts that are within a spec range. If the spec range for a cap is 10%, and sampling indicates they are within that range, they don't tweek the process further - it is in control. If (and this is a big i...
dbx Home Speakers From what I remember, they were SUPPOSED to be placed against a wall.
Pass vs. Edge Excellent inputs. Thanks for the info, this is helpful.
Does this mean I need Pre Amp w/ AtmaSpheres? THE RalphK? The Hawks may need more power. I had started with an S30 (30 Watt/ ch), and there was a distinct midrange dip with the Hawks. I then got a pair of Zeros, which helped a lot. We then tried a pair of older M60s, again a big step up. Best...
Does this mean I need Pre Amp w/ AtmaSpheres? I emailed Glacier audio, who said the input impedance of the M60s is 100KOhms, which seems high (which I think makes them easy to drive), but not sure.
tube gear for rock and techno JJ Electronics 828. Sounds good, Looks cool, 70 Watts/channel
What does "good" sound like? It sounds to me like a room thing. I find speakers sound MUCH different in different locations, especially in the bass. My guess is that the mids and his aren't recessed as much as the bass is overwhelming them. Are the speakers closer to corners ... |
