Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
Thanks, for that ref. Perhaps I need to go above my $3k limit... boy, how these things take off. But if it's not a boat anchor...

Thanks for chiming in, Don. I was looking for things for sale, and only see 1 unit, here: http://www.dsachsconsulting.com/for%20sale.htmlPerhaps there's another website or page I'm missing?
Low-sensitivity speakers — What's special about them?
Thanks, unsound. That helps me make a bit more sense of the measurement which the page for the speakers I ordered list. I bought them for the reputation and reviews --and the notion they'd be sized well for my listening room, which was confirmed b...
Speakers Don’t Matter As Much As We Think They Do?
I’m in the process of getting new speakers, but to just affirm OP's core argument, I’ll tell you this. I have some old Pinnacle PN5+ bookshelves — very small mid-fi speakers from the 1980s. Simply by buying acoustic foam for underneath them, repos...
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
@naimfan For what it's worth, I spent some time comparing it pretty closely to the streaming stuff I have (not high res, but 320kbs). I really heard a difference -- it was definite, clear to my ears. And I often second guess my ability to hear dif...

There are several things I like about your Emotiva more than the Cambridge CXC I just bought -- outputs, display, and the remote by a mile. The only solace I have is that I paid $399 rather than $599 and didn't get a DAC I didn't want. Happy liste...

Great point. I know there are used Parasounds at this dealer. P5 and A23. Not sure how outdated they are but they’d save me 1/3rd of the cost, or about 1100.00. If I went that way.
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
Thanks, Erik. It sounds like all things being otherwise equal, the Parasound feature is a plus. Thanks, Millercarbon. It seems like if everything sounds good, then the crossover is a plus. (I never said I wanted to make the decision without making...

Thanks @naimfan That drive to Ft. Collins would be more fun knowing there’s an audio store at the end of the line! And I’ll keep in mind the used approach, for sure. Without auditioning things, it’s a bit of leap, but I see there’s high confidence...

Thanks. I’ve written to PS Audio to ask if they have a technical reason not to have this on their unit. I’ve read about the measurement issues, but so many people think it sounds great I’ll probably try it out.

FYI, I wrote to Kara at deHavilland. She said she was taking a sabbatical from making audio and that I should look for her Ultraverve used, possibly to pair used Conrad Johnson MF 2500. FWIW.
I took the plunge - PS Audio Stellar DAC and S300
Hello,I am seriously considering the GainCell/S300 combo for some bookshelf speakers (yet TBD).I spent a bunch of time yesterday with the new Parasound P6/A 23+ and I'm wondering if anyone has compared them on these metrics:PRACTICAL USE: There ar...
Amicus Addendum to Tube Pre-Amp Thread by Hilde45
I'm mostly a newbie, so here is a limited answer based on what I've been learning:1.) Van Alstine keeps phono out unless you want it. https://avahifi.com/collections/preamplifiers/products/vision-slr-preamplifierParasound's recently retired NewCla...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
Someone earlier made a comment about amps which would be hard to sell later -- becoming, in essence, expensive doorstops. It raises the question as to what the downside is of getting something relatively boutique-like. I realize that the quality w...

Listening report: GOLD SOUND 2+ hours. Wonderful conversations with Ron Gold the owner, who educated me a lot. This is a great store. (Denver area). I auditioned Prima Luna EVO 400 ($5k) with a CD player and Spendor A4 ($3.5k) speakers. This was m...
