Speaker sensitivity, impedance, and calculating amp power
I'll go buy the Harley book. I'll try to consult it before asking questions like this. I assumed there were no prereq's for asking a question.@millercarbon — I'm interested in both. It starts with a practical question but leads into theoretical on...
Speaker sensitivity, impedance, and calculating amp power
Thanks, Erik. While this question may have a practical upshot, it’s really a theoretical question. I appreciate your efforts to answer it.
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
It's good to have aspirations! I have a very detailed chart which I've built from these suggestions; some of these will be marked out as things for down the road. This is one. @decooney was saying a lot of great things about Pass, too. Thank you!
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
@almarg @cal3713 @douglas_schroeder Q.E.D. as they say in logic. This clinches it for me. I do not want to start building crossovers, nor pay for expensive ones. I like the idea of keeping things simple. So, what I know now is this: the feature on...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
@tvad  I'm so grateful to learn from your experience. I do not want to buy and sell, over and over. I'm not against changes but there are other things besides audio I want to pursue, if I may say that out loud.@decooney has been making the same p...
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
@douglas_schroeder Thanks for the reality check. I realize I'm just playing with tinker-toys, so to speak. This research can really get away from one — there are so many suggestions I've gotten which has essentially dangled the carrot of the highe...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
@last_lemming  I'll look at decware but very low wattage. I am not sure about how that would pair.@naimfan  Thanks for those additional suggestions.I've been glad to collect and hear rationales for anything folks mentioned, especially if they work...
Switching to solid state amp?
Has anyone paired Quicksilver preamp with a solid state amp, somewhere in the $2k range? I'm curious about tubes, but am suspecting the the crisp control from SS will be important.
Quicksilver amp owners
I'm considering QS. Has anyone tried pairing the preamp with a solid state amp? What happened? Which pairings were good?
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
@almarg Thanks for that information. At this point, choosing will come down to listening and then seeing if the Parasound is good enough so that that extra feature tips the scales towards it.If I didn’t prefer the Parasound, though, I supposed I c...
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
@almarg and @douglas_schroeder and all,I never complained about axes to grind; I am just trying to get straight. So, I emailed Jim Salk about this question, giving him all the information about my sub, which amps, etc. The short version of his ans...
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
Thanks Doug for weighing in. I may write to Salk. I appreciate the various views, and may just have to remain agnostic because I cannot sort out what's best. I'll go listen and consider my day to day needs.
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
@djones I connect the Rel in the way indicated — Speakon to speaker terminals. It works well.I have small bookshelves that only go down to 45hz. This is why I'm interested in this question. And I believe I told PS Audio I had a sub and small booksh...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
@atmasphere One parameter is budget. Is this Atma or Ear in the neighborhood of $3k?
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
Ok, well I’m confused, then. Consider:Fact: Parasound offers something that changes the crossover point for the speaker design. They argue (and some here agree) that’s overall beneficial for sound because it reduces burden placed on speakers and a...
