Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
Thanks all. These are good suggestions. @scothurwitz  The Don Sachs suggestion does keep coming up. (Also: Quicksilver, Ultraverve, Had)@dodgealum I cannot see a price on the Herron VTSP-3A page.
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
Here's the take from PS Audio sales. I asked them why their stuff didn't have what Parasound did. The reply: "We believe handling the crossover is actually detrimental to the sound quality. When a speaker designer finalizes a design for a speaker...

That’s great, @oddiofyl . I will go look for those -- very simple unit. I suppose that keeps costs low and noise out. (Was looking at Parasound and what a difference in the feature set. I suppose one just goes a different direction with these sort...
$3000 stand mounted speakers?
You might look at Salk.
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
@decooney Thanks for paying attention to my question. Some answers to yours:DEALER VISITS: Yes, I’m sharing the specs of my speakers with dealers I visit. So far, I’ve just visited one regarding amplifiers — there, the suggested purchase was Paras...

Thanks, @wig.
Low-sensitivity speakers — What's special about them?
That aspect @phusis "a live sound imprinting" is significant. Thanks for putting it that way. Another, good metric to judge speakers by; very useful.

Thanks, for that ref. Perhaps I need to go above my $3k limit... boy, how these things take off. But if it's not a boat anchor...

Thanks for chiming in, Don. I was looking for things for sale, and only see 1 unit, here: http://www.dsachsconsulting.com/for%20sale.htmlPerhaps there's another website or page I'm missing?

Thanks, unsound. That helps me make a bit more sense of the measurement which the page for the speakers I ordered list. I bought them for the reputation and reviews --and the notion they'd be sized well for my listening room, which was confirmed b...
Speakers Don’t Matter As Much As We Think They Do?
I’m in the process of getting new speakers, but to just affirm OP's core argument, I’ll tell you this. I have some old Pinnacle PN5+ bookshelves — very small mid-fi speakers from the 1980s. Simply by buying acoustic foam for underneath them, repos...
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
@naimfan For what it's worth, I spent some time comparing it pretty closely to the streaming stuff I have (not high res, but 320kbs). I really heard a difference -- it was definite, clear to my ears. And I often second guess my ability to hear dif...
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
There are several things I like about your Emotiva more than the Cambridge CXC I just bought -- outputs, display, and the remote by a mile. The only solace I have is that I paid $399 rather than $599 and didn't get a DAC I didn't want. Happy liste...

Great point. I know there are used Parasounds at this dealer. P5 and A23. Not sure how outdated they are but they’d save me 1/3rd of the cost, or about 1100.00. If I went that way.
Is Parasound on to something? Or, How important is crossover management in preamps?
Thanks, Erik. It sounds like all things being otherwise equal, the Parasound feature is a plus. Thanks, Millercarbon. It seems like if everything sounds good, then the crossover is a plus. (I never said I wanted to make the decision without making...
