Integrated Amp $1200 or less
@mesch here on Agon loved this Vincent and expressed regret for selling it. Hybrid tube/solid state. Used, here: https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649626834-vincent-sv-236mk/And this is a bit broad, but some local Colorado options:Fort Collins: ...
Affordable US Made Tube Pre/Power or Integrated Options
Quicksilver’s preamp is $1295 and very hard to beat; sounds great, point to point wiring, American made, comments which helped me toward this unit testified to rugged reliability and great customer service. I also bought the 60wpc amps. That’s abo...
Have you ever used a separate speaker selector unit to audition speakers? Would you?
@br3098 You succinctly captured what I thought was the argument for the selector as one point of comparison. I’m still curious to try it, though I see better why it might not help much.One line of argument against it has to do with whether or not ...
Have you ever used a separate speaker selector unit to audition speakers? Would you?
@aburn Well, that is one key point of contention, and you can see I've pointed to it a couple times in previous posts. You can also see different arguments for and against the usefulness of the proposal. Rather than rehash that material, I would j...
Cables for Speaker level Inputs for Sub from mono amps ?
My research on the power cord question indicated that for class D amps no difference is made with power cords. I could not hear one and REL told me that their testing with third party power cords indicated no difference.
Passive Bookshelf Speaker Selection
I have the Klipsch and run them with tube DAC, preamp and amp with tubes, even with good NOS tubes. At over 100 hours, they are fine for folk and jazz, but too bright, forward, fatiguing for anything else. I’m moving them to home theater uses only...

@rrcpa I'm convinced.
Have you ever used a separate speaker selector unit to audition speakers? Would you?
@miller Hearing your comment as not snarky. Thank you.I had supposed that if I narrowed speakers down to fairly similar types, the quick switch would be one additional tool to help make some distinctions. I thought in the past that I had gained *s...
Have you ever used a separate speaker selector unit to audition speakers? Would you?
@twoleftears I think it does level the playing field. However, what I take is being asserted as common wisdom means that is not so important.This is what I gather the common wisdom is:(a) speaker selectors degrade the sound. The question becomes "...

@ebm I think we’re agreed on that.
Have you ever used a separate speaker selector unit to audition speakers? Would you?
@dbphd Is this what you mean? https://sites.google.com/view/pine-tree-audio/devices/transparent-selectorThanks, @jetter  I do think you're right -- it's another tool to use. I guess what I've learned is that it's not to be considered a primary too...
REL R328 & R305 -- are these two REL subwoofers close enough as a match?
Thanks. The only reason it seemed that REL was saying something indisputable was because of that direct connection between high level speakon connector and left and right channel outputs. But that would then go back to whether the mix of the recor...

I have more or less accepted the answer that "quick switching" is not the way to go. By accident, I heard this said this morning by Hans Beekhuyzen — don't switch quickly to evaluate speakers.https://youtu.be/idxT7VVYyxo?t=523
Best small, desktop speakers, $500 or under (new or used)
I never said I wasn't one of the "monkeys"! Please -- I meant that in jest, all. It's a half-smile, half-smirk at the kind of fun these discussions provide. I do learn from them, but there is kind of a circus-like energy!Peace!

@freediver Thanks -- I’ll search around. Just need to *not* be too big.@verdant The Scansonics HD M5 BTL looks interesting — a front firing port? That’s what my setup needs. But I cannot see it anywhere for sale.
