Amazon HD streaming service ... @cleeds Qobuz offers a free 30-day trial. Why not try it for yourself?I have tried it. It's good. But my question is not one that can be answered in this way. It's about the depth of the high-res catalog, in numbers. Early on, Qobuz was criticized...
Amplifier upgrade advice under $2000 +1 Mesch's suggestion on getting to know your speakers. I've not owned most of these, have only shopped for them and gotten to know how widely marketed they are. I have done a lot of reading though, so here's my opinion as far as I'm comfortable o...
Amazon HD streaming service ... I suppose I'm a bit confused — because the deals keep changing. My understanding was that Amazon was $13/month for Prime members and Qobuz (for high res) was $22/month. So…that's not true anymore? I see that Qobuz is available for much less — but i...
Amplifier upgrade advice under $2000 +1 on Van Alstine. If you would consider a hybrid, a Vincent could be the ticket.
Seriously? Why Buy ARC Ref 6SE? seems Benchmark LA4 is a better choice. One part of the answer might be found by comparing the two units’ resale history at somewhere like HiFi Shark. If audiophiles like to try and buy, than perhaps one unit retains value better than the other? Just a guess, because they both seem like...
Amazon HD streaming service ... I'm using it. I use it on an ipad connecting to a Node 2i streamer. It has a very good selection of tracks and the price is much below others. Ultra HD tracks sound great and the HD tracks, too. Not sure if HD tracks are at Redbook quality or lowe...
smaller speakers for critical listening? @larry5729 My 20" tall Salk SS 6M's are listed as 35hz and I gotta tell you, they really get down there. Front ported, larger than average monitor -- when I add the sub, well, it helps, but not nearly so much that I feel I really really need a sub.
smaller speakers for critical listening? @yogiboy Not yet. Hope to. My sense is that he does not need the support that Fritz does.
Hi-end Audiophile grade USB switches Sorry! Maybe that channel delves into your question, though. He's a smart guy with sober judgment.

smaller speakers for critical listening? I chose stand mounts after listening to many towers -- just better and more flexible for my room. My Salk SS 6M's are 20 inches high and blend with my sub. I also found Fritz speakers to work well. Carrera and Carbon Rev. 7 Mk. II. The sound field...

Upgrading Quicksilver preamp or amp caps -- warranty impact? @johnss Thanks -- that's very helpful. I may wait until warranty period is over to do this (another couple years) but if Mike gives the all clear, sooner. (I don't know why he would unless he has some reason to trust the person doing the work.)

Are there any bookshelf speakers that sound good on a bookshelf? Agree they should not be on a bookshelf. However: if they have to be placed on a bookshelf, wouldn't a sealed enclosure be better? I know that Salk WOW1's are small and front ported -- that could be a good solution, too. |
