Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
@asvjerry Thanks for your answer. Something you made me think about is that music is a necessary condition for having audio equipment and skills to use it at all. (This is obvious.) Then again, the need for fuel is a necessary condition of having ...
Name a few albums which helped determine your musical tastes
Probably because they came from a world where pop and rock were already dominant. Really dominant. I tried to find stats from earlier eras, but that would take a while. How many kids in high school did I know that were into jazz? Maybe 1% or less....

@danvignau I have scads of these albums listed here, but cannot fathom the mindset that led to the dearth of classical and jazz, especially jazz. To help you fathom, people are not listing what they think is *best* or *most worthy, musically* beca...

@danvignau  Thanks for clarifying: either "demononic audiophilia" with neurotic music tastes or relatively normal love-of-music.
Why do some think "music" (not gear, trading, etc.) is the ultimate end?
@danvignau The question asked "on what grounds does one assert that?" Care to elaborate what your reasons for asserting it are?

@rvpiano -- good one! Although, I have met some pretty obsessive Deadheads who followed the band around, tried to acquire every live recording, set list, etc.

@mdalton Thanks for your list and the vignettes, too. Very sorry for your loss.I was a grad student in Austin and saw a lot of great local and national acts there. I saw Lyle Lovett and his large band at the Paramount in June 1993, and saw him at ...

It would be interesting to contrast "active" vs. "passive" listening. Some listening -- like some viewing, e.g. of art works in a museum -- is quite an active thing to do. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2007/07/music-moves-brain-to-pay-att...
Why is there no love for Prima Luna?
@tablejockey  Exactly. And he goes through all the variations pretty well. Made in China...with parts from elsewhere; made in America, with parts from elsewhere, including China; etc. Global economy, interdependent manufacturing, etc. There's a hi...
Subwoofer placement - does it matter?
Thanks, Erik. Didn't realize it had that!
New Dynaudio Evoke 20
@fredcdobbs -- That sounds like a great deal and they're lovely speakers. At a certain point, the choice becomes unbearable. I will say that the Evokes you settled on really stick out in my mind as delightful speakers which were easy to listen to ...

Great audio club name: “golden-eared musclemen”
New Dynaudio Evoke 20
I listened to these extensively, and also the Evoke 10 and the small floorstanders, the Evoke 30. With both solid state and tube. They all sound quite wonderful, and the bass on the 20's is noticeably fuller and more rich than the 10s, but the 10s...
