Questions from a Tube Preamp newbie
@stereo5   Wow.  I'd have to check receipts but when I bought the CV 4003 about 15 or so years ago they were about $100.00 for a matched pair.  That was back in my early days with my tube line stage and just went with the advice I was given.  Perh...
Questions from a Tube Preamp newbie
@aberyclark   I only used one pair of JJs.  I abandoned them because of what I perceived to be a "hardness" to the sound.  The new production Gold Lions in my circuit yield an expansive soundscape, smooth textures and great dynamic swing.  This is...
Questions from a Tube Preamp newbie
@stereo5   My previous post should have been stated more accurately.  The NOS Mullards I used were 4003s not 12AU7.  They were recommended by Upscale for my line stage.  Glad to hear you're having good luck with your NOS Mullards.  The 4003s I use...
Questions from a Tube Preamp newbie
@stereo5  Good to hear that the NOS Mullards are working for you.  I sourced NOS Mullards from Upscale several years ago, and they sounded good but they just didn't last very long in my circuit.  No catastrophic  failures, just the tubes got very ...
Speaker Placement - When it's perfect!
@jayctoy and @tomcarr   Congratulations!  It can be a long and very winding road, but when you find that pot of gold at the end, it is blissful.Enjoy the music!
Speaker Placement - When it's perfect!
I agree that a wide variety of placements need to be tried in a specific listening environment.  I have done that!  Perhaps that's why it took me so long to find that exact correct placement in my space.  I followed the speaker manual's suggestio...
Questions from a Tube Preamp newbie
@aberyclark 1. I leave my 12AU7 based line stage on 24/7 and the tubes just go on and on. 2. Yes, in my experience. After about a week they are where they will stay.3. Don’t know as I have never had a tube power amp. With a total of 5 tubes in my ...
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
@mward  What you said accounts in large part for why there are so many brands and models of audio gear.  Your statement also accounts for why this forum exists.  If we all heard in exactly the same way, we wouldn't be debating the topics that domi...
Biwire Cables for Vandersteen 2CE Signatures
@kalali  You are wiring up your 2Cis the way Richard V. intended.  I haven't run across a designer who is more adamant about this way of wiring up speakers nor have I ever read a review of Vandersteen speakers where the reviewer didn't agree that ...
What do you consider the most musical speakers—$15000 & under
Sound with no adjective to describe it!  Metaphysics.
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
like I said!  The "Haves" are not just referring to $ but also the wisdom to use it to greatest benefit.
Speaker Placement - When it's perfect!
@dentdog Those fractions of an inch that you moved your speakers...I can relate to that. Actually that’s when I knew I was close. It was remarkable how much of a difference a fraction of an inch made especially as regards toe-in.@kosst_amojan I bo...
Biwire Cables for Vandersteen 2CE Signatures
@peter_s   I forgot to mention your wisdom of using a Rev. A .5 McCormack amp with the 2Ce Signatures.  I use Rev A+ DNA 1 with my Treo CTs.  McCormack and Vandersteen's are another one of those synergistic combos!
Biwire Cables for Vandersteen 2CE Signatures
@peter_s   RV is Richard  Vandersteen and Low is Bill Low the proprietor and cable wizard of Audioquest.  You've been getting a lot of good advice here.  Vandys and AQ cables play very well together.
