Why the obsession with the lowest octave My main speakers don't go low enough, but sometimes I do turn a sub on just to catch that natural distortion you refer to, that happens in a large auditorium. And its all part of the natural non-amplified music experience.
Why the obsession with the lowest octave You do catch a lot of low bass in a large building/auditorium. It does help make a life like performance at home. There is information down there that are caught of the right recordings.
How does music "move" down a wire? Great job. I sat back and watched to see if anyone would tackle this one.
Mission 774, one of the best? They don't seem to have any other brands tied to them at their time back them. Also, according to people on the net, no source for parts. I remember the ads, but no hands on that I can remember.
Mission 774, one of the best? Yes, they also made the Zeta arm. It may be more well known overseas.[http://www.vinylengine.com/library/zeta.shtml]
Mission 774, one of the best? I don't know anything about them, but it appears they were made by the same company as the Zeta tonearm. Maybe if your thread said Mission tonearm, or Mission turntable, it may stirup some memory. I thought it was for a speaker at first.
Maggies with Tubes? Has anyone here actually drove a pair with a high quality 20-25 watt tube amp and was happy? The OP probably would like to know.
Tube amp comparison It would be hard to compare those totally different(Dynaco named) amps to a Stereo 70. There is one for sale now that has different output transformers on it. Definitely not a Stereo 70 tranny. The others that are painted would be hard or impossib...
Maggies with Tubes? Hpower, I think it would be best to take your amp to the dealer and try it. If they're not familiar with tubes, they'd probably want to hear one themselves. Make sure they have the speakers hooked up first also, since they may not know tubes, or t...
Tube amp comparison Let me add, any of these can sound totally different if they had new coupling caps, or mods done.
Tube amp comparison Marantz 8 (8B)best overall, Mc225 well rounded and neutral for then, at about 25 watts. The Dynaco at 15 watts or so in triode(30wpc normal) doesn't sound that good in triode wired mode IMO. The ST-70 is best for its midrange, when run in it full ...
Maggies with Tubes? I'm in the group that say you need about 50 watts to get them to play at a moderate/comfortable (depends on person) listening level. With 21 watts, I don't think I'd use anything less than a 90 db at 8 ohms efficiency speaker, to get a moderate li...

Hafler DH-200 Toasting speakers The first fuse is a 1 1/2 amp(one and a half amp), just in case the decimal point doesn't show up good.
Hafler DH-200 Toasting speakers After you get your problem fixed, put a 1.5 amp fast acting fuse in series with the speakers. It would go between the plus terminal on the speaker, and the plus wire going to it. If it blows to easily, then try a 2 amp fuse. These could be bought ... |
