How to restart tube amp and pre in boxes for 2yrs Indeed Selectric, I even monitor AC ripple as I'm bringing the voltage up and carefully touch the caps to make sure they're not heating up!
? Tube Replacement Question ? Mapman the new rubber "O" ring dampers are removable and reusable, just don't cover the plate of the tube. Move the ring so it's above the plate structure. The older clear dampers used to melt into the tube.
? Tube Replacement Question ? You might want to consider using tube dampers in the phono stage, at the very least. These tubes are more susceptible to micro-phonics due to the increased gain in the phono stage. When you are using the phono stage you are actually using the phon...
How to restart tube amp and pre in boxes for 2yrs What I was meaning to say was that at low AC voltage when using a variac, when the circuit initially gets energized, current can peak. That varies depending on circuit topology, solid state vs. tubes etc. That is all.
How to restart tube amp and pre in boxes for 2yrs Ya sorry bout that..I shouldn't post on pain meds...I do stand corrected..
Conrad Johnson PV-10A mod experiences? Davide, you can talk to Ed at C/J customer service. He is a super nice guy. They probably have mods for that unit. Replacing coupling caps is probably a good idea especially if you are seeing swelling end caps or the caps are not blocking DC volta...
How to restart tube amp and pre in boxes for 2yrs Larryi..That sounds hard to believe. I would think the line fuse would blow before the diodes short out. Most manufacturers use rectifier diodes that are at least two times higher in current than are needed. That being said, as AC line voltage goe...
How to restart tube amp and pre in boxes for 2yrs Larryi..You're actually at an advantage having a tube rectifier. The tubes running off that rectifier (high voltage) have a nice soft start. No tube will conduct until the rectifier starts conducting and turns on, minimizing the inrush current. Tu...
How to restart tube amp and pre in boxes for 2yrs Swampwalker, great idea! A variac is the way I do it with equipment that's been off for a few years or more. I will usually pull the output tubes, and monitor the voltages from the tube sockets. Contact the manufacturer just to make sure it's safe...
Anybody tried KT120 tubes on Conrad Johnson amps? Apologies to the room. My last comment was inappropriate and not constructive.
? Tube Replacement Question ? I would check with ARC but I believe it's every 5-6000 hrs. Distortion does go up as the tube ages and sometimes it happens so slowly you don't realize it until you replace them.
Anybody tried KT120 tubes on Conrad Johnson amps? Wow rude and arrogant...Don't quit your day job...
Anybody tried KT120 tubes on Conrad Johnson amps? Karma if you want to upgrade your amp replace all the electrolytic caps in the amp if you haven't already. That will make a huge difference especially if that amp has the old style twist lock lytics on the high voltage side. ARC's upgraded caps ha...
Anybody tried KT120 tubes on Conrad Johnson amps? Br3098 I totally agree with you. Caps can make a huge difference and not all caps work well as coupling caps. There are caps I would use for crossovers that I would never use for coupling caps and vice versa. The bottom line is: all these tweeks, ...
Anybody tried KT120 tubes on Conrad Johnson amps? Well I service C/J as well as ARC and it's funny you mention it because I asked them about KT-120's last week. Their answer was..."We do not plan on using that tube". So there you go. Because of the increased heater current when using the KT-120 i... |
