Volume level of ARC Ref 5 seems very high
Newbee, there is no simple answer. For example, in my situation I would prefer a unity gain i.e. 0 gain remote controlled device as my audio and video system are one in the same and I can't use my ARC SP3C. I refuse to get up to change the gain or...

I suppose you can also purchase parts through me and ask me questions as long as long as I don't get deluged with them. Since CES is next week, Chris will not be at the factory. The same Italian Corporation also purchased McIntosh as well as ownin...
Counterpoint 5.1- Beyond My Comprehension
If that tube is used as a voltage reference or as a voltage regulator and the voltage was low, that could potentially cause a loss in gain. I'm just guessing at this point. The dark band/ring around the center of the plate of the tube usually indi...
harman kardon citation 16 amp?????
I'm guessing the McIntosh uses a transformer coupled output. The H/K does not. You may notice the H/K also has better transient response, as well as better air because of better high frequency response and power bandwidth. H/K's have always had a ...
Volume level of ARC Ref 5 seems very high
This is not something I normally do so you would have to contact the factory. Changing the overall gain of the line stage could change the sonic character as well. The other issue involves changing the overall gain for those who play vinyl and hav...

The Ref5 does not use a mechanical attenuator. It is microprocessor controlled.
2 REL Strata Subs and Mono amps
I contacted Audio Research only to be told that someone had already called to get the info. The bottom line is, use the 4 ohm tap as signal and chassis ground are isolated by 10ohms. That should be sufficient. That's the info I received from ARC.
System down. Need your help and recommendations.
If neither channel is operating I suspect either a tube, a power supply issue, a broken mute switch, a selector switch issue, or a volume control issue...
2 REL Strata Subs and Mono amps
Jdolgin, I do not have a circuit diagram with me and won't have it till I'm back at work on Tuesday. The problem is...I believe, both the 0 and 4 ohm taps are both chassis and speaker ground. Some ARC amps come off of chassis ground by 10 ohms. Th...

Jdoshi..it is possible that your tubes are tired and need to be replaced. I've seen instances where a tube may arc after 1500 hrs. It happens. My suggestion is to replace the tubes. It beats having a tube arc over on you and having to have someone...

It's not easy and I'm sure with the Xmas rush and the CES show early next year it's crazy there. Chris doesn't take customer calls and recommends you contact Kalvin. If you are having a service issue I may be able to help.
Grey amplifier Imports from Japan?
There is a distributor for Luxman based in California as well as Accuphase. Trying to get service on the product after your purchase it may be impossible, and you would obviously have to pay out of pocket for any repairs, thereby making it no long...
Converting tube preamp from 110v to 230v
If the preamp has multiple primary windings on the power transformer, it's simply a matter of moving or using jumpers to wire the primary to 220Vac. Using an external transformer for this purpose would degrade the sound and therefore would not be ...
