??? Listening Levels & Musical Styles ??? The "Gemini" summary is spot-on. But I thought everyone here knew all that. The chief variable is not your ears or your mood or the ambient noise level. The chief variable is what's on the record.
Does loudness play a part in your appreciation? Probably because of scar tissue on both eardrums, but even with hearing aids I need peaks at 85db to absorb all I'm capable of hearing. That's an improvement just in the past year, attributable to to an amp upgrade, 85 has now become the new 95.
Best Audiophile Album in terms of Dynamic Range and Mastering Quality? OP list consists of reliable audiophile familiars that everyone has used for decades: Dark Side, Graham Parsons, etc.. Personally I incline to After The Gold Rush over Harvest, and to FM's 1975 eponymous LP over Rumours -- two glorious, colossal h...
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too? @stuartk Let's just say that if Taylor can play, I have never heard him do it, nor heard him credibly accused of having done it.
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too? James Taylor, who if not favored by family connections, an ingratiating personality, and lucky timing (a cultural moment of stunning vapidity -- "I'm OK, You're OK;" "Johnathan Livingston Seagull;" "Love Story" -- "Fire and Rain" was of a piece) w...
Two preamps into one amp? To take it seriously: what happens to the amp if both inputs are driven simultaneously (by different signals from separate preamps)? Might there be a protection circuit? What if there's not? The front panel input selector seems an invitation to ri...
Two preamps into one amp? Thanks -- just as I hoped. The Coda amp front panel input selector feels like an invitation for two preamps, or one connected both ways, so I will proceed.
Back in the vinyl saddle again. Not to discourage vinyl system rehab in any way, but simply upgrading Aurender N100 to N200 would provide an order-of-magnitude improvement on the streaming side.
Long Run to Wall Plug vs Short Run to Conditioner? @erik_squires Thank you. Will do. I ask only because manual mentions "wall plug," implying mfr wants user to treat line stage like an amp.
And the biggest influence on sound quality is... Two separate issues are being conflated here. The recording is not a part of the system, but an input to the system, and its quality is a fixed condition beyond the listener's control. The relevant question is what's the strongest determinant WITH...
Beware: Magnum Dynalab are not "doing repairs, upgrades or service right now"!! Appreciate the reply. Guess I can't start experimenting with PCs on the tuner until mid-April when back in town. Looked at a few candidates online but need more research (and more listening time with the stock cable) before deciding which to audit...
Beware: Magnum Dynalab are not "doing repairs, upgrades or service right now"!! @yyzsantabarbara if I may ask, what upgrade power cord do you use for your MD 108T? I just acquired a used one. The original cord is pretty lame, but a 10AWG amplifier-grade cord was too much, could not maintain connection.
Help me build up a jazz album collection. Can you suggest a must have album? If I could save only two, they would be: Ramsey Lewis Trio, Pot Luck Dave Brubeck Quartet, Live at Brandenburg Gate
Has it all been worth it? Don't regret a moment of it or a dollar of it, although many of both were "wasted" as viewed in 20/20 hindsight. For many of us there have always been limitations and side constraints. Who has the time and money to build a perfect listening room w...
Comments on Fanfare FM-2G - FM Antenna Have owned and carried around a Fanfare FM-2G for 40 years without ever getting a chance to use it. At last, that day is coming with connection to an MD-108T. Question: being omni, will it be better mounted in a casement window well than trapped o... |
