What is your "holy grail song" that you cannot find?
Qobuz doesn't have Tom Russell's "Poor Man's Dream" album, which was his best and best-recorded. Subsequent recordings of "Gallo del Cielo" are available but much inferior. I want the good one on a HF playlist.
DH Labs - Shunyata Cable Comparison
@jfrmusic What a remarkable system assembly sequence. Thanks for sharing your story! Makes total sense in your situation. Would be interesting to learn how others evolved to wherever they are. @ghdprentice has generously shared his own trajectory,...
DH Labs - Shunyata Cable Comparison
@jfrmusic  Thanks. Now I get it. Still, first system I have seen where every electronic component is much costlier than the speakers they are all collectively feeding.
DH Labs - Shunyata Cable Comparison
OP: teach me something here. Don't your electronics hugely overmatch your little Harbeths? You did call this a "bakground" system -- does this mean you also maintain a separate "monster" system?
How does bi-wiring work?
I am late to the party here, but if anyone is still monitoring: I use Kimber bi-wiring cable with no jumpers (bananas connectors). Evidently doubling up with Kimber jumpers (spade terminals) could be worth the expense, even if no one knows quite w...
I Sold my CD Player!!! Streaming sounds so incredible!!!
"nothing beats streaming for discovering new music." My experience is different. Most of my new discoveries come via analog stereo tuner on public radio local programming. One host specializes in progressive rock, others in folk, jazz, baroque, re...
Spades vs. Banana plugs ??
After discovering bananas I never looked back. Used them ten years in both systems and never the slightest issue. Fit is snug and has remained so. Recalling the bad old days of bare wire & spades is just an unpleasant memory.
Schiit Audio feedback
My Freya+ has fried two transformers during its 5-year warranty period. Both fixed with no charge, return shipping paid. HOWEVER, Schiit gear is no longer the bargain it once was. Buyer now pays shipping even on delivery of new purchases. Plus, as...
It Pegged the Needle on My "BS Meter". Now, I'm A Believer. Ever Happen to You?
@freediver "finally crashing through the barrier of merely good to the divine with pure Class A,Single Ended Solid State, where Nirvana exists!!!" With what specific components? Because I'm just now discovering that pure class A amp sounds lousy w...
You're not a true audiophile unless...
Goodness, this ought to be so simple. A bibliophile is one having a disciplined appreciation of literature An oenophile is one having a disciplined appreciation of wines So an audiophile is one having a disciplined appreciation of musical recor...
If Steely Dan had a different vocalist
Headquarters. You'd think it's Dan with different vocalist.
Amp showing its age?
@mswale  Too late, already sold and replaced. Oh, well. I was already considering an upgrade. Lucky you on a 50-year amp. What is it, Crown? Early ARC? An amp like that would be a conversation piece if you started a thread on the subject in this f...
Have you noticed as your system improves?
Ditto, ditto, ditto. You can now hear into the depths at lower volume. Surprising when you first notice this has happened. Then you grasp it's because the tech has become so much more refined.
AI-Written Stereophile Articles
+++@bolong, @nonoise Fun experiment (or perhaps desecration): train AI to write like Harry Pearson. I still have mint copies of TAS from the age of innocence before CD.
Denarips and Vinshine split
Never again will I buy a DAC without asking here first.
