avantgarde with SS amp recomendation The First Watt is incompatible with multiple driver speakers. I have used the Avantgarde Model 5, Naim Nait 5i, and Ayre AX-7 and would recommend them in that order. The Avantargde was the best but also most expensive, the Naim very good but a lit...
Awesome Stan Kenton LP...surprising,, Thanks for sharing, I wish more would point out music they have discovered versus equipment issues.
Do subwoofer magnets interfere with amplifiers? Copper will shield from electromagnetic waves, like radio transmissions and electrical noise in the air. Mu metal is the best choice for magnetic shielding, in any case it has to be a magnetic material and copper isn't.
A resistor question for CAT SL-1...help needed I agree, 1/4 watt is way more than enough, and don't worry about the tolerance. If you buy a resistor assortment at Radio Shack, any 2 of the same value will be from the same batch and will be very close to each other in value.
Do subwoofer magnets interfere with amplifiers? Copper will not shield something from a magnetic field. You would need mu metal.
Watts - Volts and Resistance El, I agree with your logic but how did you get 133 is 50% of 535?The 40% of volume is misleading as most receivers of that ilk are going full blast well before the volume control is at 100%. It was a marketing trick to make you think it can play ...
Where will audio be in 10 years? No CD-like player, some form of high capacity memory chip.
Help Need tone ctrl on a reference integrated I second the suggestion to put an equalizer in the tape loop. For optimum sound that is the most expensive solution, a high quality EQ and 2 sets of interconnects, but it is definitely the easiest and most convenient to switch in and out.
Help Need tone ctrl on a reference integrated You need a high pass filter somewhere in the chain. You could:A. modify the existing crossovers and use switches to put them back to stock for full rangeB. get an equalizer and run your source through it before it goes into the integratedC. put a ...

Tube rectifier or solid state Yes it's bad and yes different tubes sound different. Maybe not as dramatic as changing input tubes but it does make a difference. Many highly respected designers swear by tube rectifiers. One of the reasons is the slow warm up mentioned above, but...
Speaker Help for McIntosh Tube Equipment I'm not familiar with the equipment being discussed so I'm not disputing the Klipsch recommendation. I'm just curious why you guys feel a 100W/ch tube power amp "needs some highly efficient speakers?"
plauged by off center image, am I insane? El, I don't think you can compare a system with a center channel to those without. I think it would be almost impossible not to get a stable center image with a center speaker. I have no problem with how you achieved the result, but I can't afford...
plauged by off center image, am I insane? I ran a test CD and it is centered. It doesn't bother me on instrumental music. Like I said, what bugs me is a fairly simple arrangement with vocal that you expect to be dead center in front of you and the vocal is slightly off center. Good point ...
Stereophile test CD2 In/Out of Phase test:question That's amazimg. I need to get out more. I have a recording of Tibetan finger bells, but I had no idea there was so much interest in the gong. |
