Anyone know the gain of Rogue M-150's?
sensitivity = Vout/Vinsensitivity = 35v/1v = 35I used the wrong term here. Vout/Vin is gain, not sensitivity, but the rest of the math is right. I taught this stuff for 10 years so I'm a little red faced too.
Anyone know the gain of Rogue M-150's?
150 watts into 8 ohms takes 35Vvolts = square root (watts x ohms)sensitivity = Vout/Vinsensitivity = 35v/1v = 35gain dB = 20 log (Vout/Vin)gain dB = 20 log (35/1) = 30dB
Capacitors drying out in an old amp
Hpims, thanks for colaborating my point with your experience with the 240. Electrolytics deteriorate and must be replaced periodicaly. If the 225 starts to hum tomorrow do you think it was perfect today. NO, the sound degrades slowly and at some p...
Capacitors drying out in an old amp
It has little to do with the build quality. A 40 year old electrolytic capacitor is not behaving the same as a new one. A 40 year old amp may be functioning with no apparent problems, but it is not functioning as well as it was when it was new.

The only ones that deteriorate are the electrolytics.Check out this discussion of aging capacitors. If it were mine I would change them. It is cheap and easy if you can solder. The current dumping topology is another matter.
Transparent Interconnect Question....
1.) Optimum signal transfer.Optimum in what way? That's kind of generic, like "it's better because it is better."2.) No need to go through the unit's inversion circuits to convert to SE at the preamp and back to Bal at the amp. Thus eliminating tw...
Transparent Interconnect Question....
I agree that noise should not be a concern, but choosing a cable because it is louder at a given volume setting makes no sense to me. You can always just turn the preamp up a bit. Choose the cable that sounds better.Although I don't think balanced...
How can I get rid of a 4khz-8khz room spike?
Are you sure it is the room? Perhaps some nearfield measurements will reveal that your speakers have a peak in their response.Ten dB is quite a bit and can be heavily influenced by your measuring technique. Is the meter clear of anything reflectiv...
Kimber vs Jensen coupling caps in Cary amps
Oh yeah, while you're at it get rid of the electrolytic cathode bypass caps too and replace with film caps. They are just as much a part of the signal path as the coupling caps. Bottom line: electrolytics sound like crap no matter where they are. ...
Kimber vs Jensen coupling caps in Cary amps
Yes, the difference in capacitors is clearly audible. You should think about the power supply caps if yours has electrolytics. These power supply caps will transform your preamp if you have the room.A few links to suppliers of other caps:http://w...
Locking RCAs are stuck
Don't know about yours but some are reverse threaded. Try going the opposite direction.
Radio interference on my phono stage
You find ferrite where you find all things high end, Radio Shack.
What is it called?
I agree with Gordus. I don't know why I didn't suggest the same. That is the scheme I am using with good results.
What is it called?
I'll email some instructions. You shouldn't post your email as there are programs that can search for them inside forums like this and start spamming you. One way to get around that is to change a portion and then describe the changes in the text.S...
What is it called?
Viridian has the best idea. If you can solder you can build a passive with Radio Shack parts for about $10 that will amaze you with how good it sounds. Project Enclosure 3x2x1" $2.29 Catalog #: 270-1801 Phono (RCA) Jack, 4 pack $3.99 Catalog #: 27...
