new amp choices
The Dynaudios at 86db and 4ohms nominal are not the easiest drive and may require a bit of power to sound their best, though to be fair, I haven't heard them and you have - what was the amplification used in your audition?A pair of standmounts I c...
new amp choices
Agree with Tpreaves and Cmalak - get the speakers first and skew your budget to the speakers to make sure you maximise the potential at the end of the chain. If you think you would prefer tubes, make sure you listen to the speakers driven as such....
Integrated amp with digital to analog converter?
You will need one of the few docks which can extract the digital signal from the iPod anyway. To my knowledge the only such docks are made by Wadia, Onkyo and MSB (at varying price points). There is no other way to get the digital signal from the ...
Musical Fidelity A 1008 CD player
I'm not familiar with your model but the A5 CD player which is also tubed doesn't do this. Having said that, I also have a Cayin tubed player and it does exactly this - on power up it takes 30 seconds before it unmutes and if you've already hit "p...
Just when I thought digital could not match analog
Might be interesting for those ONLY looking at a PC music server based syetem but the complete lack of flexibility in terms of any other input options (SPDIF or Optical) makes it a non-starter for me.

speakers to go with Musical Fidelity a5.5 amp
I have the Mordaunt-Short Performance 6's driven by the A5 amp and the sound is excellent - very transparent and great top to bottom integration. The two have great synergy to my ears. Not sure of your budget but well worth an audition if possible.
Upgrading Cayin A88-T: what is next?
Agree with Catama about trying some tube rolling. I also use the Genelex Gold Lion reissues and they made a marked difference to the sound - bottom end tightened up, more forward in the mids and overall a more balanced sound. Also tried NOS Sylvan...
Changing to bookshelf speakers. Recommendations?
A bit out of left field - Lenehan ML-1's. They have just replaced the Usher Be-718's in my second system and are truly remarkable standmounts. I recommend visiting the Lenehan website which provides a lot of technical information about their speak...
Review: Lenehan ML-1 Monitor
I have recently purchased a pair of the ML1's on the strength of the reviews and comments on this and other audio forums. I agree with the comments in this review. These are fabulous speakers which deliver a very well balanced and superbly integra...
upsampling DACs
Aqvox DAC has phase reversal option and is a very good sounding unit.
Have you turned your loved ones into audiophiles
Not quite - when my wife asks me what I'm doing on the computer, telling her I'm looking at porn is safer than saying I'm trawling the A'gon site!
Eggleston Andra III vs Magico V3 vs VA The Music
I'd encourage you to add the Avalon Indra's to your audition list. A friend and I did auditioning of Indra's and the Magico and the Indra's comfortably won the day - faster and tighter bass and stunning realism. Haven't heard either of your other ...
Room dimensions - can this work?
Should be fine, Jim. The Totem's can work quite close to walls (maybe as close as 1') so won't eat into your 14' too much. You also have the option to play with the mass loading available in the base of the speaker to tailor the bass to suit the r...
Spendor speakers
The BC1 from the late 60's till the 80's is probably the most famous Spendor speaker. It is a large 3-way standmount, easy to drive and known for it's smooth presentation. Could be a bit wooly in the bass, but a beautiful midrange was it's most st...
