Get a better turntable or better phono preamp?
Definitely the phono pre but certainly not because the specs are similar, they do sound different.
How Much Is TOO MUCH for a Analog front End?
DC step, have you done many comparisons, or are you merely speculating? A $10k rig is much better, and it is the opposite, the differences become larger, not smaller.
VTA for arm vs VTA for cartridge

Rega Exact 2 on a Technics 1200
I agree with Synthfreek, he is correct for many reasons.
Rega hum
Miner42, try moving the pre away from the power, 2.5 inches is not very far, the oak shelf makes no difference. The phono section of the pre is probably right above the power transformer in the amp.
Rega hum
How far away is the pre from the power? The preamp phono section could be picking up hum from a nearby transformer.
Test Lp
Hello Houstonreef, I adjust VTA, tracking force, and anti-skate by ear. The walker website goes into more detail. On my system it is easy to hear anti-skate adjustments of as little as 1/8 gram.
Good turntables w/o record clamps
Hey Dopogue, the Avid 'tables and the Oracles actually raise the LP at the spindle area so they will wobble greatly without a clamp. Very much the opposite of sitting securely.

Grand Prix Monaco review in new Stereophile- OUCH
I sincerely meant no disrespect for Michael Fremer in my calling him "Mikey" in a previous post. Pied Piper's assessment is right on the mark as well as Dlanselm's.

Great post Sirspeedy, you said what I meant far more eloquently than I possibly could have!
Anyone heard or purchesed the new EAT tubes?
Look at the thread "new production tubes for $225". I bought a pair and am extremely happy with my purchase, much better than any tubes I've ever used.

I ,for one, appreciate Mikey's personal response on this forum. I certainly would not want to be subjected to this scrutiny.
