Which component upgrade will produce more BASS?
I absolutely agree with Plato

I wouldn't change speakers until more room tuning/speaker placement research is complete otherwise the same problem could reoccur with the new speaks.
Turntable upgrade or not ?
The VPI and the Avid sound very different, one must decide which camp you're in. It's often hard to compare things that are sonically completely different and decide which one is "better" and what determines "better".

I've recently taken off my cork mat and exchanged it for an anti-static mat. Does anyone have any experience with with the static buildup (or lack thereof) when cleaning the LP resting on the o-rings?

Thanks all for the clarification, I was not aware of that.

Crem1, the o rings go under the tube holder, not the LP.
When cantilever not parallel to cartridge sides
Aligning the cartridge body is never very accurate, not good at all.
Static on highs
Static on highs, sounds like a town in England!

LP's will always have lower output than CD's therefore you will have to turn the volume up more.
Record is noisier after cleaning:
The carbon fiber brush is creating static like they always do. Thee other comments have merit as well.
Help with uninspiring sound with my turntable.
Mapman, you may want to try less anti-skate tahn what is the norm. i do it by ear and have made pretty big improvements in the sound. my tracking force is 2.1 grams and I've found it to sound the best at .9 grams anti scrape.

What are the Mint strips and where do I get some?
Anyone NOT like the sound of VPI?
Be careful, these adjustments aren't "tone controls", wrong adjustments affect the sound in various ways, not as consistent as you seem to assume they are. You'll soon find out in what way the adjustments are affecting the sound.

Spencer is absolutely correct, as well as some others along the same lines.
