DAC OR NO DAC???
I have a Jitterbug and it works great. Of course, I didn't have any interference problem without it but the sound got better with it. You can also check iFi's filters. Or go all-out and get a re-clocker and then a not-to-expsensive dac. I have als...
Is there actually a difference?
I agree with almost everything @soix  said above. Great post!As some as said, you need to define where in the price range of amps you think it doesn't matter anymore. Do you really not hear any worthwhile difference between a $100 amp and a $10 00...
Thiel CS2.4 to what?
From what I've read I think the Audio Physics are somewhat similar with a great soundstage and some models should be available around $6000-$7000, cheaper if you go pre-used. I also like Focal but Focal Sopra are more expensive. I don't remember w...
If you still spin CD's their is a reference level Transport for reasonable money
The Cambridge CXC is often mentioned. I would also look into a reclocker, it may improve the sound a lot.
want to ditch my Brooklyn to streamer..thoughts?
A cheap option is to build a Raspberry Pi with an output card that matches the Brooklyn. I will do this for my dac and use a HifiBerry card. I think there are pre-built versions too if you don't want to fiddle.
The big DAC decision
You could also check out Denafrips, they have many respected models. And Lessloss, PS Audio and HoloAudio. All these have been mentioned around the forums the last year. I haven't heard them myself but they seems worthy of investigation. If you are...
Interconnects and non-believers
Is The Cable Company Still in business? Sounds interesting to try some good cables if you already have a good stereo.https://www.cnet.com/news/can-expensive-audio-cables-improve-the-sound-of-a-hi-fi/
What's happened to the used high end market recently?? Sales are tough....:0(
HEA is fine but it has closed for today.http://imgur.com/dZj4DPU
Converting cd's to high resolution audio
I will probably use Exact Audio Copy to rip my small collection into flac files And copy it to an extra Hard drive and Google Drive. I can use My computer with an usb dac or possibly try to build a Hifiberry with spdif output.
Horn based loudspeakers why the controversy?
@kosst_amojan don't talk down JBL. I heard JBL K2 horn speakers at a show years back and they were great. I wanted to buy them but couldn't afford $10k.Of course, they have cheaper and probably non-audiophile speakers too.
Yesteryears' expensive speakers compared to modern moderately expensive speakers
Many good points have been made already. I agree that both new and old can be a Good choice. One thing modern design can have is better amps and electronics. The Kii Three seems interesting and it is active with built-in in dac and some room corre...
Stereophile, no more bench tests????!!!!
@almarg great summary of the usefulness of measurements!I decided a Long time Ago that I would choose stereo items based on how they sound, or based on other people's descriptions of the sound, not in measurements. Unfortunately I haven't been abl...
Stereophile, no more bench tests????!!!!
@jmcgrogan2 I read the digital version of Stereophile on Zinio. Many magazines has a digital version that cost much less than the print version. I think it's in all our benefit if theese kind of magazines survives and can afford to pay reviewers t...
Good Speaker within a budget of USD10,000
Focal Kanta 2 should be in that price range. They sound really good.Have you thought about taking a trip somewhere to listen to a few speakers? Like Bangkok or Singapore, they might have more stores.
