Mark Levinson / Voltage Conversion US = Europe What I would do is looking out for used items offered by US dealers. The rewiring for an electrician or expert is indeed a piece of cake. I asked around how to rewire McIntosh-units (a MC402) and was sent the internal McIntosh-manual how to rewire...
SCHEU Premier substitution In fact, Scheu is developing a new, better motor, to go with the new model, which according to some German audiophiles who have already listened to it, offers not only a new design, but even better bass and soundstaging. I have listened to Acousti...
SCHEU Premier substitution I don´t think there is any reason to loose trust in Scheu and its products - just the opposite.Problems such as unanswered e-mails may arrive in small companies whose founder dies - Thomas Scheu died 18 months ago. However, his widow, Ulla Scheu, ...
MC cartridge for Thorens TD147 & Mcintosh C200 Petesm,as the MC-stage of the C200 includes an Ortofon-built step-up transformer with an impedance of 10 ohms, you will be fine with any traditional Ortofon-cartridge with an internal resistance of 3-10 ohms. I myself use Ortofons with my C200, wi...
Best Mcintosh solid-state amp 200-300 watts? Zikhmark,I see you use the 501monoblocs now. What is the difference and to be gained by moving up from a MC402 to the 501s?
Speakers to mate with McIntosh gear Another possibility is Revel´s F32 or F50, which you could easily find on the gon for your budget, and which both offer the richer sound you are craving for.
High end amp - my last step My recommendation for that kind of money would be McIntosh´s MC501 monoblocks, which would be even less than your budget, but sonically at the top, not running hot, being servicable in the long run
Which digital cable to use with a Benchmark DAC-1 Yes, my experience too is that the digital cable makes a difference as large as with the other interconnects. I use a LAT International DI-30 Signature, in a balanced version, which is recommended for use with the Benchmark in order to get the bes...

SHAHINIAN Aurel, the price for new Diapasons in the US is 16,500$. If you take a look around for a few months, you might pick up a used pair for anywhere between 5- and 10,000 $, and import it to Europe. Thats what I did with my pair of Diapasons, which I go...

Mcintosh MC2500 VS MC352 Other listeners disagree, bigjoe, I remember that ljgj, who owned both the MC500 and the MC352, liked the sound of the latter better, being the modern design and more transparent
bi-amping with Mc352 and Mc2102 Larryrosen, search for member "ljgj" here, he used the setup (MC352 and 2102) described by you, he hasn´t been posting lately, but always was very helpful.
Einstein "The Turntable's Choice " phonostage The editor of the German magazine Image HiFi, who is a vinyl head and used the Swiss-made FM Acoustics before, sold the FM Acoustics for the Einstein, which is now his reference. He uses both unbalanced and balanced. His e-mail is dirk.sommer@imag...
Best DAC for 1,000? I would still try the Benchmark. I bought it for a friend, and briefly compared it to my own Chord-DAC64 (3200$). The Chord still sounded better, but only by a small margin. |
