what's your opinion on the magazine 'stereo review'??
The best thing about Stereo Review was that it gave rise to Stereophile and the Absolute Sound in the '70's.
Emotiva not so good
The Outlaw M200/M2000 monoblocks are better.  They are relatively musical.  But they do have a bit of grain blocking absolute transparency.  For the price, though, I think they are a real bargain.  Both for home theatre and for audio.
Do any still use an older high end tuner from the past?....
I happen to live in an area with an exceptionally good NPR station .... WFCR, hub of NEPR (New England Public Radio).  This station puts out a state of the art FM signal, as well as three digital sub-channels (which I ignore).  It provides not onl...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
Agree with 4425,  although I would add refurb'd Dynaco or Van Alstine gear to CJ/ARC.  Any of these you can easily get really good, fully depreciated preamp and amp for $3k or less.
Vinyl Old timers: HK's and Rabco's
The turntable that the HK was modeled after (poorly, IMO) was the Rabco ST-4.  It was a very quiet belt-drive turntable, with a thick tube "roller" and the flat tonearm that has been mentioned.  The tonearm was metal, except for the end where an a...
My stereo receiver is a little too bright. Can a cable help me out?
Look for a used Fulton cable from the '70's.  They were very good except a bit of a dull high end.  Should cost next to nothing .... an added plus.
What's up with TMR Audio?
Perhaps they posted a "closed for the Holidays" notice on their website or facebook site, and forgot the phone message.  Not good, necessarily, but perhaps understandable in the holiday rush.
Jazz for aficionados
Since Christmas is upon us, thought I would mention three Christmas jazz recordings that I turn to every year.Jingle Bell Jazz - A Columbia Records collection of jazz tunes recorded over a year's time by such luminaries as Duke Ellington, Lionel H...

prof2 - same experience with me.  Used Audio Research D90b for years, then switched to very decent solid state and yet never stop being a bit restless until I finally bought the ST-85.  Now I'm happy.
Playing mono records properly without breaking the bank - a phono pre-amp question.
A Shibata stylus works very well on mono records.  I use one, and a Counterpoint SA-1000 with no mono switch, and I get great, focused mono.  I did not get this with an earlier MM/eliptical setup.
Mmmm Crow tastes good...
For years I had a system with five Thiel 3.5 and 2 2 loudspeakers, all full-range and the three 3.5's flat down into the '20's.  No sub(s) needed, and flat, full bass response.  One way to beat the problem.

Fellow Thiel-ers.  RE: 3.5's and amplifiers.  Just a post for whatever it means to you.  I've replaced a series of SS amps with a pristine used VTL ST-85 (paired with a Counterpoint SA-1000 preamp and a Counterpoint SA-2 headamp.  Magic! This amp i...
What are the best Room Accustic Treaments members have found?
Wall placement as required by speaker setup reccomendation, reasonable amount of furniture and wave breakups, such as bookcases filled with books, and damping material placed strategically on walls, ceiling if hot spots (excessive refections) foun...

brayeagle - thanks for the links to the iconclast cables.  I went and spent some time there.  The thing I found most interesting was their claim that "time of arrival" was the missing critical factor, and the main driver behind their decision on h...
Do I need isolation footers for my components if I'm already using an isolation rack?
No.  If the isolation rack really isolates.  You can only eliminate vibration once.
