Where do you want your system to go when you go?
I’m experiencing the same issue.  I’ve been in and out of the audio business all my life.  From having a small high-end audio store in S.CA back in the late 80’s to working for high-end audio manufacturer’s.  Most of my excessively custom over bui...
Go Ahead and Laugh at Me
Fortunately here in the USA since we’re at 115V (really around 125V now days) so even if you set it wrong it won’t damage the equipment.  It just won’t work. Now if you’re in a 220V country and you set it to 115V and plug it in your screwed!
"Too much gain"? (Cary SLP05 question)
Philharmonicpete - Yes the total gain is reduced about 3db to about 21 I believe on the ultimate upgrade. The reason is that the plate load and cathode resistor values were changed which changes essentially the “slope” if you will, of the sound.  ...
"Too much gain"? (Cary SLP05 question)
@xcool’s statements are perfect.  Love it.  Although the Cary support person is very nice, sometimes he doesn’t give me a straight answer [. . .] He never really answered my question. “Haha. Yeah. There was a time when I used to rave to anyon...
"Too much gain"? (Cary SLP05 question)
Just thought I’d ad my two bits as I have a lot of experience with the SLP-05. I do not work for Cary Audio. First off avanti1960 is correct. The two “Balance” controls, essentially extra dual mono controls, can be turned down so you have plenty o...
Best double live vinyl?

Looking for warm tube preamp (should pair well with Pass power amp), budget $6000
For the Cary SLP-05, it uses 6 6SN7’s.  Two for the balanced inputs and for for the balanced line section.  Not sure why your mentioning the 6H30 and 6N6P.  What am I missing?  I was only talking about retuning the SLP-05.
Looking for warm tube preamp (should pair well with Pass power amp), budget $6000
If you want to get a warmer sound from your SLP-05 try some NOS tubes. I love the old Sylvania tubes in it. Fuller and smoother then the stock tubes and just all around better sound. If you want a much warmer sound try NOS RCA tubes. I prefer the ...
Looking for warm tube preamp (should pair well with Pass power amp), budget $6000
I’d pick up a used Cary SLP-05 preamp and then send it in to them for the Ultimate Upgrade.  Huge improvement over the stock unit.  smoother and cleaner with better low level resolution.
