any thoughts on mcintosh ps112 subwoofer? I am a Mac dealer so I am somewhat biased - but personally I think this is one of the most underrated, underappreciated subs around. I think it is absolutely superb. Pricey, yes, but superb nonetheless. It is probably the most distortion free subw...
Cartridge Recommendation for Audio Note Turntable We have an Audio Note IQ2 sealed in the box posted online for $175. Hard to beat for that price. It's a moving magnet, high output cartridge but a superb match for that arm and table.
Revox spks: Were they at CES?? How do they sound?? The A1 speakers do have that problem - ReVox is working on new feet for them because at the moment you must use a very thin wire with the speakers or they get a little tippy. But the A1's are the only speakers in the line that have the binding pos...
speaker sensitivity dividing lines Sean makes an extremely important point - EMF is a crucial factor in amplifier-speaker interaction and it is often ignored. When it comes down to it sensitivity is really not a very useful specification at all. Impedance, capacitance, and back EMF ...
hybrid and redbook Redbook is a normal CD. It will play on any standard CD player, DVD player, or SACD player.Hybrid's are the new SACD (Super Audio CD) titles which have two "layers". The outermost layer, which is the only one that a conventional CD player can read...
Can't get Meridian 565 to detect digital input A lot of DVD players do not output true Redbook even if you play a CD on them. If the player doesn't output true Redbook, some DAC's will not establish a digital lock. it is also the case that some DAC's will lock but will put out a distorted soun...
best monitor for tubes? Wilson Benesch Arc's - best bass on tubes you'll ever hear in a two way monitor, guaranteed.
Two Stereo Amps, Bi-amp or Monoblock? Bi-amping is almost always better than bridging for several reasons.1) If you bridge into mono you typically do not double current output, but the rated watts RMS may double. This ought to give you an indication of how relatively meaningless watts...
I'm interested in vinyl......... I would recommend a Rega P2 over an MMF7. But be that as it may, there is no point at which CD sounds better than vinyl. I maintain that a P2 with a good cartridge on it (Dynavector 10x4 comes to mind) sounds better than any CD player in my store,...
Help on cartridge.. Dynavector 20X smokes any of those that you mentioned. You can get it in either high output (20X-H) or low output (20X-L) configurations. This is easily the best sounding cartridge in the $500 and under category. The big brother, the 17D2 is a maj...
Reterminating Nordost- worth it? The easiest thing to do if you have a five way binding post in your speaker is the following:Unscrew the post sufficiently to exposure the hole through the center of the post. Insert one of the z-plugs in this hole (they will fit) Then screw the p...
Speaker recommendation - 3K budget I would seriously consider Neat Elite's. Great speaker, would mate very nicely with your existing setup. Definitely has lots of resolution, is quick, clean articulate and uncolored. Awesome high frequency extension, and tight, tuneful bass.
Where to find new vinyl Uh... I would avoid Simply Vinyl. Their stuff sounds terrible and is overpriced.Acoustic Sounds is a great source, Music Direct (www.amusicdirect.com) is another. Audiophile Int'l (www.audiophileusa.com) is yet another. There are many others but t...
Passive preamps and poweramp's input impeadance Well maybe Nelson pass says it's ok but I sure as hell wouldn't run a 10k ohm preamp into a 23k ohm amp. Just my two cents worth. Sure it'll work - but it's not going to sound as good as if the impedance were matched better.
Best Frank Zappa´s Recordings Make a Jazz Noise Here, and Sheik Yerbouti get my vote. Zoot Allures is fun too. But it's hard to pick, and all the titles listed above are awesome for sure. |
