How Much Surface Noise is Too Much?
"How Much Surface Noise is Too Much?"Isn't that a Jeff Foxworthy routine? Heheh.
PC Based Audio - How?
I've been out of audio and A'goN for over two years, but am getting ready to jump back in this time with a Mac based front end.Right now I'm looking for my best options using the USB output from a Mac into a DAC via I2s, bypassing S/PDIF altogether.
What is the best electronics for Proac D80?
For many years you could find ProAc and Audio Research gear mated at audio shows.I heard D80s powered by a pair of VTM200s at Alexis Park 5 years ago and thought it sounded pretty good, but not as expansive as I had hoped. It could just have been ...
The planets have aligned
Wow, so you're Abbys like your Almarro? That's good to know, I'll keep that in mind!
Most helpful audio companies
I've gotten great help from Blue Circle, BAT, Audience and Theta. But then again, I haven't needed help from that many more companies.

my take on blind tests
I'm too lazy to conduct double blind tests.
Gallo Ref 3 HT owners-do use additional sub?
As with Ozzy Osbourne, all you need to hear is the first and last word of each sentence and you'll have no problem understanding him, heheh.
combining different cables

I've experimented with doubling up and using heavier gauge for the return run of speaker cables and it's interesting how it impacts the sonic characteristics.I still need to try the Home Depot extension cord speaker cable project, heheh.
Replacing stock cables: where to start
Good recommendations above. I've had good luck with AZ Tsunami, VH Audio and Virtual Dynamics. Even the entry level Virtual Dynamic PCs I've owned were very good.
Computer music to Stereo
My Quad Core Macintosh G5 allows me to output either an analog signal via minijack or a digital signal via toslink. If your computer allows you to output a digital signal through either toslink/coax or USB you can run it into a DAC that accepts th...
What's wrong with Velodyne?
My feeling is that older Velodynes like the F series had an eye towards music reproduction while the subsequent HGS and SPL series were aimed more towards home theater, thus the negative opinions by music lovers. With the DD series it seems Velody...
Quick question about the NHT SW3 passive subwoofer
There are some reviews, but they go back about 7-10 years.I've owned an SW3P combo for nine years and still enjoy it. I did think it sounded much tighter, had better tone and was better controlled when powered by a 250wpc Bryston 4B than with the ...
Are DIY Cables Worth It?
I beta tested the VH Audio speaker cables you're considering in the summer of 2004 and thought they sounded very good. Luckily they came to me already made so I didn't have to play audiophile crochet with them.
