Playback Designs MPS-5 - Measerments v. Sound
Thank you Bill, for some reasons I keep confusing Esoteric SA-60 with SA-50. . . suspect it's age. . . will only get worse (grins!) G.

Kops, Esoteric D-03 can be upgraded. I believe that X-01 series and below cannot be upgraded, except for SA-60 that already has USB built in. G.
Playback Designs MPS-5 - Measerments v. Sound
Dave, the ICs I provided were Audioquest Sky. In the end, we simply did not have enough ICs and PCs of the same brand/model to make the testing environment truly uniform and meaningful. While I did prefer the Esoteric stack, this was with a full t...
Playback Designs MPS-5 - Measerments v. Sound
As usual, I'll take the minority view. I agree that recorded and live are inherently different, and that attempting to reconcile the 2 forms of music amounts to a futile enterprise. . . as for recorded music being inherently less intense. . . it t...
Playback Designs MPS-5 - Measerments v. Sound
If Esoteric gear like X-01 D2 or P-03/D-03/G-03 combo does not have over 1,000 hours on it, do not bother listening to it, it is rather painful to behold. Once it is broken in, I personally adore it. Whether of course this means that I have no mus...
New Rowland Criterion 2-chassis battery pre
Husk, I'll know more about Corus product availability in the next couple of weeks. . . but the prediction of 4 months out for Corus does not match anything I have heard this far from JRDG. Claude, Erick Lichte seems to be correct about Model 925 p...

Playback Designs MPS-5 - Measerments v. Sound
I had the opportunity of listening at some length to a very well broken in MPS-5 2 years ago in Denver on a few different systems. The player belongs to DCSTEP. The device is in fact remarkable for its resolution and musicality. The only situation...
New Rowland Criterion 2-chassis battery pre
All, it looks like our Criterion and related products thread is back in business after a brief abscence caused -- no doubt -- by a minor quantum fluctuation in the probabilistic Landscape that powers the Multiverse. My thanks to all that contribut...
Pre and power amp for Vandersteen 3A Signature?
Do you have a budget? G.
Tubes vs. solid state.
Hmmm, have been booby trapped more than once. . . at least in one particular case the pears must have been deep cryoed on the rack. . . together with the rest of the underlying chassis. . . spent 2 months of sheer hell trying to warm up the I/O. . G.
Tubes vs. solid state.
I'll take boobs over both tubes and SS anytime! . . . however, in the frequent abscence of the first one, I use my ears. . .Seriously, I would probably choose CJ over SIMAUDIO every time. . . on the other hand, I do not deem myself a tuboholic or ...
When did you ever hear a system sound so life-like
Actually , no it has never happened to me. I don't think I ever mistook a recording for a live performance. The two are. . . different. Neither is 'better' than the other. . Just different to my ears. G.
Footers for Esoteric SA50 CD-SACD Player
Ever the iconoclast, I propose a completely different idea. . . rather than fiddling with support, it may be an interesting experience to load the SA-60 with a little more than 20Lbs of weight on top of it. Last Summer I made the experiment with a...
Rowland model 5 vs Threshold S500 series II
