Review: VTL TL 6.5 Tube preamp
Thank you Marc! Have you already tried the Valhalla. It tends to create a very slender midrange which I do not find to be congruent with unamplified bowed strings.
Review: VTL TL 6.5 Tube preamp
Bloody absolutely magnificent analysis Mark! While I am a proud owner of Ref 3, I knew VTL 6.5 was a winner when I heard it PSCIALLI's place. I can only hold the admittedly unjustified hope that the comparative weakeness you perceived in Ref 3 mid...
Review: Spectron Musician III Signature Edition Amplifier
Spoke today to Jeff at JRDG. Apparently the 312 amp is balanced both at the input and the output, while my old JRDG 7M has balanced input but a single ended output, with one of the two conductors in the speaker wire acting purely as ground. I am n...
Review: Spectron Musician III Signature Edition Amplifier
I have read in a couple of places that the Spectron Sig is a 'true' balanced amp. Does this mean it is a differentially balanced design, or is a synthetic balanced signal achieved in some other way?
Sonus Faber or Aurum Cantus
"a classic case of music lovers speaker vs audiophile speaker. you already know which is which. "Afraid not Jaybo, Please enlighten those of us -- like yours truly -- who are sadly not in the know.

Thank you for the feedback Sodapop, much appreciated.
Spectron Musician III Signature vs VTL Siegfried?
Very intriguing indeed. The most enjoyable amp I have heard this far is the relatively new Rowland 312. Has anyone A/Bd the Spctron Sig and the 312? At less than half the price of the 312, the Spectron would be quite appealing if it can match the ...

Sodapop, in your associated equipment, you list Theta Enterprise. Could you pls give us a brief comparison of Spectron vs Enterprise? Thanks, Guido
AHs anyone heard the new Ayre MX-R mono blocs?
AYRE MX-R are priced similarly to Rowland 312 stereo and to the Theta Citadel monos -- before the price of the latter was hiked up. Has anyone compared the MX-Rs with the 312 and the Citadels?
Ayre MX-R vs Lamm M2.2 Opinions
Gerrym5, which amps did you compare against the MX-Rs, and what were the releative strengths/weakness of each?
Maple platforms
A hardwax-like treatment can also be easily done using 15% marine grade Tunc oil, 15% carnauba wax and 70% turpentine as a thinner. With this DIY version you may need much more than 2 coats. Anywhere from 6 to 15 coats lightly applied with a spong...
Master Clock Experience with Esoteric GO-s?
The answer is definitely yes, the TEAC G0S clock enhances presence, staging and imaging, and perhaps even authority on the TEAC P03/D03 combo. Conversely, I did not perceive any effect of the same clock on the single box X-01 Limited.
Maple platforms
Yes, a lot of spruce for bowed strings did come from the Val Di Fiemme (in Italian) also called Val De Fieme in Friulian language. But only tops and perhaps sides are made from the relatively soft spruce. The bottom was mostly made from maple -- o...
Maple platforms
I can't help asking: why is maple so prevalent in audio racks and platforms? The common answer is: because it is a tonewood, which has been used for hundreds of years for making the best string instruments in the world. This is certainly true, but...
Experience with Raul's Essential 3150
For what here would seem to be a minority view on auditioning the Essential 3150, please see my comparative findings with the H-cat starting at:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1059180366&openfrom&654&4#654
