Are High End Audio Products Unreliable?
Been in this since 1995. Still just a rookie. Owned Adcom, B&W, Harmon Kardon, JBL, Kef, Marantz, Mcintosh, Mirage, and Meridian. Some mid-fi some high-end. Never had any issues or need of service on anything. I might add any of the above list...
Marantz PM8004 with TT-15S1 Record player
I bought the TT-15si 3-4 months ago and am well pleased. It works easily in my Mc stack and plays well with others. This TT is not a snob, quite easy to setup and sounds good with very little tinkering, but is good enough to be future proof should...
Krell 402E latest - advise needed
Don't own Krell but would love to try if I had the money to have two sets of amps. I must admit I am a power junkie as my first system started with 75watts then 100, 300, then finally 500. My current setup started with 500 and is now at 1200 watts...
How important is an audio rack?
Rhljazz, as far as the isolation/vibration control goes I agree in theory that it could be beneficial. But when I took my gear off my thin sheetmetal rack and placed it on butcher blocks on the floor, I can't tell the difference. I was expecting a...
How important is an audio rack?
If your gear is that prone to resonance and vibrations maybe your using the wrong gear.
what to buy under $500 bi wire spkr cable
I had the Monster 2.4, very similar, and before settling on the AQ Oaks, tried the AQ Gibralter. The Gibralter had much fuller, lower, focused bass, lower noise, greater transparentcy, richer mids, more extended highs, etc. Used can be had at your...
Best preamplifier, amplifier for B&W 800 Diamond
I posted back in 8/11 and have since updated my preamp to the c1000 Mcintosh with the same 1.2k monos, pretty good combo if I do say so myself.
Words From the Wise
Be honest with yourself and know your limitations. If you have a odd or small room which must be shared with the family you may be limited as your setup might be less than optimal. We all make compromises daily, but with highly revealing gear setu...
B&W N802: Which amp??
Dave_72 is right on the money, the more power the better, mine love their power.
Where is the attractive audio furniture?
Good thread, I'm closing in on the finish line and a better rack is the last piece, famous last words right! This is something I would really like to see in person. No dealers seem to carry anything that trips my fancy. Would hate to custom order ...
Best Sounding CD / SACD player under 15K
If you can live without sacd, try Meridian. Owned the 808.2 happily for about a year, sold it with intentions to buy the newer 808.3 but ended up, believe it or not, with a Mcintosh 1100. Possibly your bad experience with Mcintosh could have had o...
Are audiophiles people of sound prejudice?
Orpheus that is a brilliant post, I could'nt agree more. I think we all migrate towards enhancing our genres.
digital vs vinyl thoughts
Only had a TT for about 3 months now, so my experience is very limited. What seems to ring true often is music recorded before the advent of digital I seem to prefer on vinyl when listened to on both. Stuff released in the 90's can go either way d...
Benefits of brand synergy
Totally agree that preamp/amp matching is the best approach. Have tried mixing sources with good results, but ended up matching the cdp as well, but only because it out performed my other.
Is there any truth to this question?
When I first got hooked in the mid 90's I went from 100 watts to 300 then finally 500 watts. At each change better sound in all regards. In 2010 when I went from 500 to 1200 watts same thing better sound, and better at low volumes ei. .1 watts. Th...
