Does a wired streamer sound a LOT better than a wireless connection?
I found that bog-standard cat 6 wire sounded better than wireless (large orchestras, etc), but that could be a tech (rather than configuration) matter. As regards the additional questions: All else being equal:1)  does a record sound better than a ...
MSB Diamond DAC V
Maybe my ongoing experience with the Select (the current top of the line) with dual power base can help. I’ve had it along with another top-end DAC (Ideon Absolute) at home on evaluation for about a month now. The MSB is beautifully engineered, ea...
Will streaming ever be "audiophile-worthy"?
My take is, it already is...I don't know about the portable devices, but listening to Qobuz (hi-rez files) yesterday through a world-class digital front end was surprisingly and enthusiastically good. Naturalness, frequency response, dynamics, det...
Some basic computer audio questions
Hi mcribMy experience1) Used USB out to an external dac— SQ not just "better" but in another dimension altogether2) No idea, but you could have one made inexpensively using aftermarket wire 3) No idea:) I doubt the difference (if any) is significa...
Quad 21L Speakers - Promising, but with a hard to resolve issue
Presumably, the speakers are lost unless you repair the Xover, so the only course of action left is to remove the xover board & check the components. You'll probably need to cut the input wire at the xover level and later solder separate input...
12 years or 18 years?
Lately, I discovered a killer weak to enhance bass extension: 25yr old single malt Suntory Yamazaki whisky.OTOH, a glass of Laphroaig with a drop of pure Islay water makes the sound soft, tube-like.Drinking the whole bottle transports you to the m...
Suggestions please!! --Need to replace vintage Audio Research VT 200 Tube Power Amp
I agree with BIF above—here's an idea along the SS lines: Benchmark amps.I heard two of them (i.e. in monoblock mode) driving ProAc 4s very well indeed. We were listening to orchestral works that are very demanding—no detectable strain from the amps.
History Repeating (Certainly an Irony in this thread!)
Excellent idea and a great choice (historical repetitions of that kind are welcome) ! I propose another, extolling the beauty of this world. Here’s to many happy returns of spring without pandemic : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3yCcXgbKrE
Speaker Woofer fix for rubber surround cracking ..suggestions pleae
You need to change the surrounds. There are people who offer speaker repair kits  and I strongly suggest you contact them and watch a few vids on the subject on Utube. Here is one such shop. Do not use nail polish, it will harden the surrounds! Go...
Need some Tube and Class A SS Suggestions
Other than the XA25 mentioned above, I recommend you check out the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 600. I listened to it recently with Spendor D9s, a very pleasing result. I imagine it would sound just as good with the D7s if not better
Wilson Alexandria X2 vs Alexx
I lived with the X2 for some time and, while I loved them*, I would unreservedly recommend you go for the Alexx. To me, they sounded faster, more open, and more dynamic than my X2s—more modern if you will. They do seem more difficult to set up and...
Quarantine Project--A Full Range Speaker Kit
@cedargrover  Good show! You might want to check out Madisound kits as well
MSB vs dCS Bartok
@4425 do NOT count on it sounding better going direct. i’ve personally never found that i would be happy long term with that. there’s always some intangible element missing that makes music special. imhoI have similar experience with the Select, i...
Active speakers for a large room
Hi @garbo Here is the link -- it's the 3 series, not 3M, sorry to confuse you. Don't be put off by the looks, they are surprisingly good speakers, with very good dispersion characteristics!
Tweaks - An Honest Discussion
@discopants My system is low resolution source material but it sounds incredible (3D soundstage, PRaT, microdynamics, accurate tonality)Accurate tonality & dynamics from low res source matl -- that is exceptional performance indeed!Back to twe...
