How many NICE looking high end floor standing speaker are there at present
@justmetoo For something different looking and, arguably, better (IMO)  sounding than your very worthy 961s, how about the Vivid Audio G series? Here is a taste of what they look like. The performance is excellent and the pricing ruinous -- bu...
Is VTA and SRA the same thing?
No. VTA is the angle of the cantilever relative when the cartridge is horizontal relative to the record. This is set by the cartridge manufacturer (it's usually 20 degrees). SRA is the angle of the stylus relative to the record surface. The text-b...
A light-hearted essay on loving music vs the audiophilia obsession
Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed your well-written missive. I for one, use any change of gear as an excuse to listen to music, again, and discover new things -- if discovery there is. Listening mostly to classical, I appreciate the nuances that come ...
KR Audio Kronzilla VA680i anyone ?
I have experience with the 1610 Kronzilla, from years ago. What would you like to know?Generally speaking, it is eminently powerful, it sounds (sounded) good, and it is cumbersome (heavy & hot).
How much $ in used gear streaming to beat $5000 CD player
A high-performance DAC at around 2.5k new (i.e. less used) & a good streamer (see above) will do teh job. Indeed, your CDs will sound better as well! Use the Oppo as a transport.
MSB vs dCS Bartok
@georgehifi Sound maybe like bit stripping to me, how much higher than 106 can your MSB go? It can't, 106 is the highest number on the volume level.
What Do You Think . . . and How Does It Work?
Linkwitz was one of the contemporary gurus of speaker design (think LINKWITZ-Riley crossover, etc). His site is full of invaluable info The Pluto is an impressive speaker for its size, it needs room around it to breathe (IMO) and will reproduce de...
Upsampling and the FR of a DAC
As you know, the filters kick in at half the sampling frequency. So at 96kHz the highest cut-off is at 48kHz; with a 192kHz file the FR can go higher (i.e. up to 96kHz). Of course, there may not be any info up there -- other than noise, that is!
is it possible to make digital audio sound like vintage vinyl
@mikelavigne it is hard to find an Lp and digital file from the same mic feed, yet both native analog and digital. and that is what you need ideally, but it’s easy to find a digital file and vinyl pressing from the same tape master, and when you d...
Convergent Audio SL1 Ultimate vs
I had a CAT ultimate when it was still current, very many years ago. It was an outstanding pre, I am not sure there are many (any?) better choices out there for 2.5-3.2 k, I certainly cannot think of any!
stand-mount speakers for classical music
Try to find a pair of Devores to listen to -- it doesn’t have to be their latest model. The Devores play well close to the wall, i.e. you don't lose much in terms of soundstage which is importantwhen there's a full orchestra involved (think: Mahle...
Short speaker wire and long inter connects or reverse
My experience is, long IC and short spkr wire. It always worked for me, either using tubes (EAR 519, Jadis I don't remember monos) or solid state (Kraft class A, BFA, MFA 1000m etc).Of course, common sense dictates the opposite -- low level signal...
stand-mount speakers for classical music
For classical you need dynamics, minimal phase anomalies, and naturalness -- to name a few. Try ATC 20s or whatever else in ATC fits your budget; also Devore (Gibbon): whatever fits your budget. The Devores are particularly important as they can p...
Review: Fritz Heiler’s Carbon 7 SE Mk 2 bookshelf speakers
Thank you for the thorough and thoughtful review.I have most of the recordings you used and I am intrigued by these small speakers!
Strange Rivers
J. Baez, "Strange Rivers" ?  Indicative of our times perhaps?Regards
