1.2k Output Impedance to 10k Input Impedance
I use a Jenson transformer to very good effect. Works like a charm with no negative effects on sound. Only $200 new!
If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp?
Wolf for president!
ARC Ref150 or Aesthetix Atlas with Vandersteen 5A
Hard to make decisions based on a show as the total system and room impact the sound. The Atlas is a known great match with your speakers and often shown together. The Atlas is a superb sounding amp and you should try one or several amps before de...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Space is certainly an issue. I am having an expansion chassis being made of wood that expands the depth of my chassis by 8 inches. This is how I can fit all these big can Mallory caps.

Yes my power supply has a bridged rectifier as an FYI. It is a 50 watt push/pull amp using el34 or kt88 or 66's

My amp used 270 and 470 uf caps but I am replacing with 1500 and 3300 uf caps from Mallory. Again, replacing with more capacitance for better sound.

Can one even find a PIO with enough capacitance for a proper power supply? I use values from 1500uf to 3300uf. I have learned from an excellent tube amp builder that a power supply should be made with large can computer grade caps and loads of cap...

Volleyguy1, I use those large computer grade can caps made by Mallory. I find they work very well in power supplies, Have you tried them?
Passive Pre-amp: Improves overall sound quality??
Marebg, you forgot one of the most important things a great active is needed for.- great sounding music from a stereo systemAt least this has been my experience even when all the stars were aligned perfectly for a passive to shine.
Passive Pre-amp: Improves overall sound quality??
Sounds real audio, it can't and to those in the passive camp that is a good thing?
If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp?
I would go with a tube preamp as the pre is the heart of the system and has a huge tonal influence on the system. I love tube amps, but don't like dealing with too many tubes in my total system. I opted for a hybrid amp which gets me closer to an ...
Capacitor question
Charles, not all agree that smaller value film caps can replace or sound better then those big can computer grade caps in the power supply. The film caps used in these power supplies are usually far lower uf values and proponents say that these sm...
Soundlab Speakers - Budget Amp Suggestions
Atmasphere, I have read that if you remove the shunt resistor when using a high powered SS amp you can damage (saturate) the transformer on the SL speaker. This is not the case with tube amps and the technical explanation goes on from there.....I'...

Soundlab Speakers - Budget Amp Suggestions
Hi Atmasphere, I have done them all including bypassing the brilliance knob, biwire option, cap value and quality rolling and reducing the resistance. I have not totally removed the shunt resistor as that would not work with my SS amps as you know...
