Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
When I take temps in my preamp (tube) I have never read temps any higher than 90 - 102 degrees F. If the room temp is 75 degrees, then I assume no issue? For cost and hassle reasons the thought of an LDR is very interesting. Shallco attenuators ar...

Last question. What temp fluctuations are you assuming in these cases? How hot? Over 90 degrees F? Thanks...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever?
George, are you saying that a DIY guy like me really cannot place an LDR volume control in a tube preamp. It would be interesting to compare to a nice Shallco stepped attenuator. Would LDR actually sound better then a Shallco in a top notch active...
Is it too much to ask....
Wow, this seems so straight forward and captain obvious. Ya, put the darn watts per channel in the ad as it is an amp after all! Are we really arguing this?Oh my, no way we humans will avoid falling over the pending fiscal cliff and this thread is...
TRL Dude Dilemna
Awesome to hear. Yes, you have a great combination to be sure. Happy for you and enjoy! If you don't know, Paul makes power cables for the Dude and Samson's that really bring them to life. You may have them already, if not they may be the final ste...

I have owned the Belles Ref 150 and 350's and they are awesome but NOT tube sounding. I am a tube amp lover and will tell you based on my experience here are some better choices. I have owned many, many amps and do have some experience in this are...

Yes the tining will prevent corrosion if applied well. I would still heat shrink over it. If you plan to simply solder into the existing speaker wire, then adding a short piece of silver wire to each end of the cap and then soldering to the existi...

Thanks Charles. Must offer a trial for that kind of money as I would never purchase a set without a trial period. Too bad. Have you tried Clear Day? I emailed them as they offer a trial and use solid core which is my preference. Perhaps you have h...

Charles, I have owned top of the the line Kimber silver and still the same sound as I mentioned above. I want to try Ocellia, but the site lists no prices etc... Do they offer a trial period? I would like to try them as I am open minded with silve...

Great points. My Mundorf solder has silver and gold? Not seen copper however?
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Jwn, Correct. I have tried to like silver and even built a set of silver ic's with VH Audio silver wire, but in the end it just sounded a little thin and tipped to the highs. Solid core copper seems to be the most evenly balanced wire I have heard...

Charles, it is needed to avoid the copper oxidizing. You must cut the leads and solder with a properly coated wire or treat the bare copper leads to prevent oxidation and the deterioration of the signal over time. One or the other is needed.

Charles, I was talking to a well respected builder and he suggested that one can hear the skin effect caused when the surface of exposed copper wire becomes corroded. He pointed out that heat shrink does not keep air out and the copper may still c...
