Audio Research, next upgrade?
Another vote for preamp. Second choice--your source.
Anyone heard the new ARC LS17SE?
As between Ref5se and 5, there is a greater palpability of all images. To the extent that prior ARC gear could be characterized as slightly on the lean side, the new caps fill in the boundaries of all images for a more natural and dynamic presenta...
Worth Going to 'THE SHOW' IN NYC IN APRIL
Exhibitor list has some major quality. I'm in.
Worth Going to 'THE SHOW' IN NYC IN APRIL
The last Stereophile show in NYC was worth it, but many exhibitors said they would not be back because of extraordinary costs mainly of labor union requirements for the load in. Hope it's not true. We need a significant audio show in NYC.
Are Mcintosh Tube Amps really all that?
Erfranke:I used to have an all Mac system incl C1000 tube pre and Mc2102. I have listened at length to the Mc275 and 2301 monos. The sound on all Mac amps is rich and smooth and relatively neutral. The products are built to last a lifetime. Custom...
Audio Research Ref 5 and Krell amps
Thanks Tylercoupe. Nice summary.
Audio Research Ref 5 and Krell amps
Hi Tylercoupe:I have Ref 150 and Sashas and am quite happy with the combo. But as you know the Sashas are difficult to drive in the mid- upper bass/low midrange between the impedance and negative phase angle. I'd like more thrust there but at reas...
Searching for new speakers: Wilson, B&W, ??
The sophias will provide better bass at lower volumes than most high end speakers on the market today. Plus the Sophias excel at just about every aspect of musical expresion. I see no downside to Sophias based on Vdose's needs.
Wilson Sophia III vs Sasha
The Sashas are worth the extra $ IMHO if you have the electronics to drive them. Quite a bit better than Sophia 3s in all areas, but especially dimensionality, soundstage, separation of instruments and reproduction of frequency extremes. Of course...
Noice from fan in Audio Research VT 100 MK III
I believe the Ref 150 fan is almost or exactly the same as that in the Ref 110 and that the silence of the Ref 150 fan is due to different venting to cut down on turbulence.
audio Research REF 110 and KT 120 tubes
As a follow up, the problem was, as I suspected, with the temporary pre. The KT-120s are not strident in the lower treble or upper mids. Rather it is an upgrade that can be heartily recommended all around.
McIntosh C1000 tube pre vs. ARC Ref 3?
Fast forward a few years, the ARC Ref 40 leaves the C1000 in the dust.
ARC Reference Anniversary preamp in 2011
Well---for those who are thinking of upgrading from a ref 110 to a ref 210 or a 610 to get more power and a more substantive midrange without losing holographics that ARC is famous for--JUMP NOW. Th Ref 40 does it all in spades. In the first hour ...
audio Research REF 110 and KT 120 tubes
For what it's worth, I dropped ARC supplied KT 120s in my Ref 110 and can say with assurance that they provide noticeably more power, dimensionality and transparency. The caveat is that I did this bit of listening with a temporary pre (in place si...
Audio Research REF 3 and REF 5 Tweaks
I'll have to talk to my dealer who charged me $250. Thanks Scousepasty.
