Two surprising things I found that improved my imaging and staging...
“And don't have any equipment on high racks between speakers. Not having anything other than room treatments between speakers is perhaps the most important thing in getting 3d imaging. You can have equipment low to ground, anything higher than 20"...
Budget High Current Power Cords
I like MC’s idea soldering 2+ together. The trick is sourcing a high(er) current connector for the amp end.
The Most Cost Effective Tweak
RudyB: Could be fun to have a "Frequency Response" thread where everyone (who’s brave enough :) posts their measurement results.I agree on the fun aspect. W/out specific guidelines* to generate and capture the FR curve(s), attempts at comparing “a...
Review: NAD 3120 Amplifier
Chiming in: I still have mine from 1983? And it still works! I came from its big brother, the 3045. Used it about a year ago connected to several different power amps to break-in a pair of Polk outdoors speakers. Now I have dedicated shop space co...
Which component to upgrade to improve bass control?
Mo’ bigga speaka wya!20’ runs? Bi-wire if you can. Otherwise double run w/stacked nanners. Made a big diff years ago w/the low impedance highly reactive subs I had at the time. My $0.02. Tony
Does Steely Dan sound bright to you?
Can’t say on these SD albums as my TT is down right now. If it make you feel any better, years ago during/following a binge on either of the two following artists I thought the same held true - Elton John’s “Honky Chateau” LP and Jethro Tull’s LPs...
If Cables Are Not Tone Controls...
All of my speaker cabling is a few years old. Would not mind doing an upgrade here or there. ICs: 2-3 years ago I repurposed some I bought in the 90s w/new connectors. Would like to upgrade some there too but $acing to complete something big first...
Dedicated power
I encourage the OP to provide 30 amps to the P’sound amp and a separate feed for everything else. “Too much” would serve you better than not enough. I won’t advise on panel connections. I’m gonna follow someone’s suggestion concerning which leg th...
Budget tower speakers that rock!
Someone mentioned Polk...Unless you like it VERY bright AVOID Polk’s Rt/RTI/RTi A* towers. They are good for HT and they will pump and thump but...*I used modded RTi A7s for my LR in my HT Definitive Technology and Polk are under the same parent c...
Is this how a Subwoofer Crossover is supposed to work?
1. At the top your list must be to deploy a single solution to control system volume you’ve been presented w/one or more to date. 2. Either   a. replace your existing subs or   b. find an external XO* w/some DSP to aid in room integration *DBX Dri...
How old are you?
63. In it since 23All NAD driving Kefs - still have a 3020 and the Kefs.
Newbie to the awesome audiophile world
@retsameht01Well you now know you’ll get as many opinions as people in this hobby. I’m sorry this turned into a long post on philosophy instead of gear. Tough to sum up 40 years in one post. I couldn’t determine if, after this purchase, a. you are...
Subwoofer. Great one song. Not so great the next song.
To everyone’s credit in this thread, I saw info & equipment resources either I would use or recommend to empower others. To all I MUST emphasize caution using EQ boosting more than 2-3dB to “correct” system frequency response. If you take on t...
The Zero-va Interconnect a DIY project
Tips or a thread for balanced cablesthnx, Tony
Good Stereo Speakers for outside use during BBQs, evening pot luck dinners etc
Another +1 for Polk Atriums - recommend the 6s or 8s. The Atrium 4s or 5s mid woofer a bit small for so much space to fill. Regardless their rep is they‘ll be around for years and decent sound, slightly “hot” top end
