802d for a 10x13 room, 8ft ceiling - am I nuts?
802d in that room will be a complete disaster and a nightmare. If you like the b&w sound, 805d is the only one that MIGHT work. Even these are too much speaker for that room size. Honestly, 10 x 13 is too small for serious audio, unfortunatly.
Dynaudio Confidence 5 or Confidence 1 for this room????
I'm sure you already know this... but 13 x 13 is way too small for any serious high end audio. For any Dynaudio speaker to shine, you're going to need a bigger room.
Room size
7' ceilings are our enemies, I'd suggest treating that ceiling as much as possible with diffusion
Anti-Skate::Playing LP's vs. 12
N803nut - The only way that I could get rid of the sibilance distortion on my Scoutmaster and JMW9sig setup was to replace it.
Shure SFG-2 - Safe to use with LOMC carts?
My SFG-2 was 0.6g off. If I set it to 2.0g on the Shure, it was actually 2.6g. I gave it to the trash can. I'd say stay away from this gauge.
Cartridge for the JMW 10.5i
The Shelter is way too stiff for the JMW to track properly. These arms have a natural tendency to have sibilance distortion. I'd look for a higher compliance cartridge if you want to stick with the JMW. Better yet, as Audiofeil mentions, replace t...
Speakers to compare to Dynaudio Confidence C4
Agree with toetap - The dynaudios are excellent, and if you already know that you like them, go with them. The others mentioned in this thread have different presentations, notably the verity and the sonus faber having far less visceral dynamics. ...
Speaker audition: a novice’s journey
Graham - It sounds like you know a lot about your craft, and care about your customers... but why would you run a serious speaker audition in such a small room? I've never heard anything better than mediocre in a 13' x 15' or smaller room, I've fo...
Amp for Gallo Ref 3.1 and Modwright swl 9.0se?
I run the Wyred 4 Sound 250WPC amp, class D, and it sounds great with my 3.1s. No complaints here, a much better match than a pair of Cary Six Pacs for me (these were sloppy in the bass)Given my experience, I do agree that you want some current to...
gallo reference 3.0 positioning?
I think the original poster is talking a bout tilting them downwards instead of upwards... Please correct me if I'm wrong
Wilson Sophia 2--- VTL S-150 or Ayre V1-xe?
"I dont think I could live with a ss amp on Wilson for it would be too bright."SS amps, like any other component, have different sound signatures. Some are overly bright and fatiguing, some are warm and sloppy, and many are in between.I've hears t...
Are VPI tables considered musical and involving?
"musical" doesn't mean anything at all... and hence isn't a good way to describe how an audio component sounds
Upgrade modded P25 to P7 or uprade cartridge
What I would do, is upgrade to the P7 and start with the Dyna cart you already have, it is a good one. Then, when funds allow, feel free to upgrade your cart
Tools to measure in room response
To do this properly you will need software (RoomEQWizard works fine for "snapshopts", but I prefer TrueRTA as I can see the changes visually as I move things around), and a properly calibrated microphone along with a mic preamp. If you are taking t...
Killing sibilance distortion - VPI & Jubilee
Hi All,Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences once more!Doug - a minor clarification, the AT33PTG is actually a MC cartridge. Also, can you clarify in what way you feel the recording with this cart sounds dull and slow? Frankly, other th...
