I am considering purchasing a Helikon cartridge...
I am using the Helikon with ARC PH2 and LS25.With a little patience, it will reward you with superb performance, but as Futterman indicated, you need to give it at least 100-200 hours. For a richer tonal balance (without losing air and definition) ...
B&W Nautilus 803's versus 804's and 802's
A very good friend is using the 804's with the Sunfire Signature subwoofer. The blend is seamless. The combo sounds more impresssive than the 803's.I would keep the 804's and look into the possibility of buying a subwoofer.
any comments on the Yamaha CT 7000
The Yamaha CT7000 is a "Classic" tuner. One of the best from the mid seventies. A good friend has owned this tuner from about 1978. It remains excellent even by current standards.
ARC Ref 1 vs. ARC LS-25 I vs. ARC LS-25 II
I own the LS25 MKI. The MKI with NOS 6922 tubes (6H23), in my opinion, surpasses the LS25 MKII in terms of tonal quality and musicality. Also, The MKI with the NOS equals the MKII in terms of dynamics, midbass solidity and impact. Of course, the r...
Audio Research PH-2 Phono Stage
I agree with Jafox. I have been using the PH2 since I purchased it new from Woodbridge Stereo about 6 years ago. In my opinon the PH2 is a superb phono preamp. In fact, it surpasses the PH3 (in my system) in virtually every musical category. I fin...
Sony SCD-1 balanced or unbalanced?
I am using the SCD-1 in an all balanced system (ARC LS25 to ARC VT100 MKII). The balanced mode (using Burmeister Silver interconnects with both XLR and RCA terminations for comparison) is clearly superior to the unbalanced mode, in my system. Pres...
Demagnatizing Phono Cartridges
I have owned several Lyra cartridges, including my present favourite the Helikon. Scan Tech recommends frequent Demag for best performance. Presumably, it remains a matter of opinion.
Maggie 3.5 vs 3.6 big differnce?
The improvement in the 3.6 vs the 3.5 are slight. The 3.6 are a little better in the midrange but not by much, in my opinion.
Power cables for ARC VT100MK2
Franklapdog:We seem to have the same taste in power amps (to wit: ARC D115 mkII and the VT100 mkII) so we probably have similalr taste in the type of sound we like (hope I am not too presumptuous here?) I agree that opinions depend on system/perso...
Power cables for ARC VT100MK2
Franklapdog: I own the VT100 MKII and it certainly did not sound forward with any of the Powersnakes cables. In fact the King Cobra, in particular, produced spectacular results with the VT100 mkII.The VT100 mkIII has a slightly forward presentatio...
ARC D-115 ..need advice
I owned the D115 MKII for 11 years, before replacing it with the ARC VT100 MKII. The D115 mkII was a special and very musical amp. I had great results with the Sevetlana 6550C.Upscale Audio sells the matched Octet for approximately $240. Their tub...
Audio Research comparison
Blues_manMy take is this: if you "upgrade" you will enjoy your music less. The enjoyment of the musical experience is the bottom line of this hobby to me. Try the 6H23 NOS in your preamp and you never feel the need to "upgrade"Good luck.
TT: Aries or Delphi V
I think the Oracle Delphi V/Graham 2.2 is a step up in performance compared to the Aries/JWM combo. It is no-contest in terms of beauty, the Delphi win hands down. The Delphi V (with turbo supply and granite base) is comparable in performance to th...

Blues_man:A RefII and VT200 is an awesome combo. Why would you want to upgade?
