DIY cables Vs Mass market cables.
Mattybumpkin,Yes my friend these do make a difference. The best dielectric/ shielding is air itself. You knew this didn't you? Certain cable shieldings do more harm than good. Twisted cable ..well the verdicts still out on whether it makes a real ...

Mattybumpkin... a good design? You've lost me guy. Silver is silver and copper is copper...did I miss something here? Adding a colorful jacket/sheilding will not change the composition of the metal. I didn't know Merlin the Magician was still aliv...
DIY cables Vs Mass market cables.
Pabelson, why would I want to put connectors in my signal path if I don't have to Duh.. No thanks ...I'll keep using the Silver.
DIY cables Vs Mass market cables.
Pabelson , I see your point and agree for the most part.I would rather see a newby spend $60 or $70 on REAL Silver wires than $800 retail on the tin stuff. This is easiest way to find out for one's self that some of this Audiophile cabling is BS. ...

Hmmm ..Mapleleafs3 is talking about Interconnects. Who uses RCAs on speaker wire ? This must be something new.LOLHow about read the original post where the poster mentions he's planning to make speaker wires.

Hmmm ...it's 16 AWG Silver wire not 24 AWG for speaker wires. It will also last a lifetime without the worry of oxidation seriously degrading the conductivity unlike copper oxide. From what I gather from recent reading copper oxide as a conductor c...

I agree with Mapleleafs3. Go for it..you'll never look back. I need to make myself some interconnects out of this a stuff also. The Fine Silver speaker wires are great. Skip the terminations and go bare wire for the speaker wires. Remember no conn...
Searching for power amps with low damping factor.
I forgot to mention the original Monarchy SM70 as a viable solution. Dampening factor should be pretty low. Pure class A, Single ended with no negative feedback.
Searching for power amps with low damping factor.
I understand what you trying to do. As you mention some speakers do not perform well with amplifiers of high dampening. It can cause the speakers frequency range output to be unbalanced..which pretty much throws tonal balance out the window. Op ch...
Speaker cables which bring out more bass?
You could go with a solid core copper or silver wire. Or a 12 gauge or less stranded copper wire, which too my ears doesn't give more bass. It just attenuates the highs to give you the perception of more bass.FWIW, the gauge doesn't have a big eff...
Totem Rainmaker distortion??
Yes I understand Timrhu. He could also just take them back to the dealer..if close enough. Let the dealer take the driver out and see if this is the problem. Man..I'm glad I haven't had to deal with Paradigm's customer service. The two companies I...
Totem Rainmaker distortion??
Timrhu ..this isn't exactly the same thing as tearing down the engine of a brand new car.LOL Taking four or five screws out isn't a big deal... atleast for the mechanically inclined. Some manufactures would suggest you do this before going through...
Totem Rainmaker distortion??
I've heard this on a pair of speakers before. I discovered after removing the driver, that the problem was the speaker wires were too close to the back of the driver's cone. Everytime there was a need for lower extention(more travel of the cone), ...
sealed 3-ways
TLs, Sealed and Aperiodic enclosures all share similar characteristics in reducing the impedance peak of the enclosure at its resonance, which also lowers the overall Q of the box. They also share a 12dB per octave roll off in the bass region. You...
Is harmonic accuracy and timbre important at all?
As usual Opalchip conveys what I'm thinking better than I can convey myself ! LOL Great post
