Bass reinforcement for very large room
You will save yourself a lot of grief by inserting an Audyssey MultiEQ in the system to smooth any Sub you install...and smooth out any other room gremlins. It's amazing how that device will change the entire sound (for the better).
Tannoy PBM 6.5 Monitors anyone?
we used them in our music studio for a while....for listening not for mixing. I still have the pair in my spare equipment closet. You could do a lot worse....and of course you could do alot better. We now mix with Mackies.
Amp wattage for NHT classic fours
I wouldn't run any NHT speaker with less than a clean 150W RMS per channel. I am uisng an NHT power5 for my NHT 2.9's, AC-2 and M5's. Prior to that, I ran the same speakers with an ATI 1505 which I retired because it was just too heavy for my stan...
How do you determine how much to spend on speakers
The harsh reality is that you can put $5000 speakers in a room next to $500 speakers and the $500 may actually sound better. The room itself plays a critical part in the sound. You don't hear specs and the sound you hear will not be flat due to ro...
Home Theater Preamp/amp advice.
Although I recommend them, the Onkyo/Integra's run very hot due to the REON chip which you can't turn off. If you are planning to put your components in a cabinet, this may be a factor. The other overall concern is power to the bedroom....which is...
Home Theater Preamp/amp advice.
Integra DTR 8.9 or 9.9 or Onkyo TX-nr3007 would be right about at your purchase point if you want new and latest features. But once we understand your speakers and room, we might recommend some used gear or some of "last years" models.
Does anyone like country
I only listen to channel 10 and 14 on XM....country and bluegrass. From an audio point of view, I think the natural sound of a banjo is one of the most difficult instruments to reproduce faithfully thru a sound system.
Scotch? No thanks. Whats the best Vodka.?
Jafo100, on he contrary, a couple of glasses of Vodka makes those radio shack speakers sound wonderful....and it's far cheaper to buy good vodka than to replace those $35 speakers with $35,000 ones.
Speakers help for a newb...
You have to be very careful about speaker selection because your Rotel only outputs 75W per channel and many of the speakers today require more than that for clean sound. I was going to suggest NHT 2.5i's used, but you don't have enough power. I'm...
Best single-malt Scotch...
The thread that will never die :)If you want a rare treat, find your way to Edinburgh and go to The Scotch Whiskey Society for lunch. You can sample (for a price) as many of their specially bottled single malts by the glass...and the price is very...
Scotch? No thanks. Whats the best Vodka.?
I forgot to mention that if you find yourself on a Celebrity cruise ship, they offer Stoli Elit at the same price as Grey Goose even though it costs 2 to 3x as much at retail. A best buy :) Finding Jewel of Russia is a challenge..they have very th...
Scotch? No thanks. Whats the best Vodka.?
Stoli elit and Jewel of Russia Ultra are both worth trying, but extremely expensive. Believe it or not, Tito's (texas) is extremely good as well, well worth trying (I always have a bottle in my freezer). Since restaurants carry none of the above, ...
Re: What are the Best Speakers a $1000 could get?
your biggest problem will be the sub...The lowest priced musical sub that I would recommend is a used James EMB-1000 but that will eat up your budget. (it doesn't boom...it gives realistic bass). For speakers, you won't go wrong with used NHT's...L...
HELP: how to eliminate speaker HUM?
The hum might be caused by a component or transformer near your preamp/processor. I had a small 12V transformer slip under my lexicon processor and it created a hum just as you describe. Solution...move the transformer (or other device that causes...
JBL L300 - true myth?
They are wonderful speakers. Do a google search for lots of information. The capacitors probably should be replaced in the crossovers
