Best Way to Spend ~ $2000 for System Improvement
Don't think it would consume the entire $2K but maybe consider some room treatments; e.g., a couple of GIK Acoustics' 244 Bass Traps behind your speakers, maybe???  Spend the balance on a subwoofer.
Static noise help please
Eddy - Thank You. I think I get it. I did not know which of the wires in an intact USB cable were carrying signal vs power. Sounds like red & black carry power so those (red to red & black to black) need to be soldered together to join the...

Doesn't disappoint me...not married to any one format.  I listen to CDs, HDCDs, SACDs, Vinyl and on-line/digital sources.  To me, the skill and care with which the actual recording was made seems way more important in terms of sound quality than p...
Static noise help please
Eddie - glad to read splitting the USB cable got rid of the static.  That 5V Enercell on Ebay is the one I'm using.  It was originally recommended by Williewonka (a member of A'gon).  If you feel like it, I'd be very interested in a step by step p...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
Thanks to a poster on Audio Asylum and Bandcamp...The Revolutionary Army of the Infant Jesus - "Beauty Will Save The World" (indeed, we hope it does and SOON).Shifting Sands - "Cosmic Radio"Both from a UK label, Occultation Recordings.
cartridge headshell screws.
tzh21y - Ignoring the possibility that alignment geometry changed when switching screw sets, seems to me another potential variable contributing to the difference in sound you report might be the amount of torque used to tighten each screw.  Was t...

I like reading record reviews while listening.  Here's one on Leslie and this Soundcheck release.  Love the fact that the closing track has Jack on vocals (but geez, couldn't they find a good sound guy to capture ANY of their live recordings???)ht...

Found it, Slaw. A 2015 release...sonics seem very good. Haven’t heard enough of it to know what I think of the music yet (does he still have the fire?). Do like his cover of You Are My Sunshine (several covers on this one).  From Track 6 (A Stern ...

Slaw - pleased you are checking out Leslie West.  I am not familiar with that one...my bet is the music will be good but I'm anxious the sound quality will be bad and turn you off.  I'm going to see if I can find it on Spotify (or YouTube).  Get a...

Hey Nutty - Don't miss John Wetton's band, UK.  Quite an illustrious cast of players.  S/T 1st & Danger Money are good, I think.  Hope you will check them out if you aren't already familiar with 'em.   re Peter Green...yeah, we got plenty love...
Do You Use USB for Streaming?
Hi Kraftsound - had to smile...DIY is usually the most cost-effective option if you have the skills and materials available - but if you think Doukmall’s $58 for a split USB cable is expensive, check out what iFi is asking for their GEMINI split U...

Nutty - got the headphones on and GH's "The Way It Is" (Spotify) cranked.  Ohhh YEAH!  Glad somebody is still making music like this.
Jazz for late night relaxation
Jesse Cook - "Gravity" Might debate whether it is jazz but the "late night relaxation" sure fits. Great musicianship and excellent sonics.
USB DAC Dumb
Mahler's point is Question 2 in my previous post.
Subwoofer
I do buy into the idea that subs aren't just for improving the bass but the overall experience of the music.  I played around tonight with an AR H6 sub (100W, 8" driver, ported) from our very modest home theatre that was on its way to Goodwill.  S...
