Tube amps under $7500 @dhite71 It may have been a MC462 Solid State Amplifier. I would think it is because it is solid state vs tubes. I am constantly surprised at how much solid state power you need to perform similarly to tube amps. I am also an ARC fan.
Audioquest or Nordost for speaker cable I have found the lower tiers of Nordost to be just OK… but once you get to Valhalla and up they are outstanding. I only have experience with new AQ power cords. My evaluation AQ wire was long ago, and at that time was not good. But a lot has chang...
My new B Stock speakers Congratulations on your purchase. As you know, one shouldn’t draw any conclusions from the first few hours on a new purchase with speakers… but of course, that is human nature. So, congratulations on being human. Just a reminder… the speakers need...
Stupid question about hooking up a streamer Yes. Just place a mesh node next to your system and plugin to that. This tends to work better and more reliably than most “onboard wifi receivers”. This is the way my two systems work, and they work very well. I know of a number of $150K systems t...
Pre Amp break-in balance issue OP, ‘Happy ending. I’m old enough to appreciate a problem going away without following it.
why expensive streamers Because they sound better. The take almost no bandwidth. They buffer and isolate from noise and provide a clean, ideal signal for the DAC. Mine cost $22K and was worth every penny. Of course, you must have appropriately good system to get the mos...
Cabling Recommends Simaudio Ace/Totem Forest I would have to say given your input Cardas, the best you can afford. Definite wait and buy used. Given your equipment I would think stay below $1K… maybe $500. These should be natural sounding and add a bit of heft to your system while deliver...
Listening Room High employment, rising wages, dropping inflation… which has been two or three times higher in the past, stock market making new highs. Sounds pretty good to me, and I’m retired. The US has the sixth highest income in the world, with only tiny cou...
Your thoughts on best audiophile speakers in $10,000 neighborhood? Given my values of musical and natural sounding music Sonus Faber and tube equipment like Audio Research, Conrad Johnson, and VAC is perfect. The combination captures the warmth and depth from a sax or female vocals, but rises to high impact elect...
Youtube audiophile hi res sounds MUCH better than my Eversolo streamer @pinwa Cool album… sonic effects oriented.
Surge protector OP, 👍 I’m old enough as well to just not worry about a lot of stuff. Yes, a once in fifty years kind of thing is worth not worrying about. I remember putting UV filters on my Nikon lens to protect them. What a waste. I stopped that twenty yea...
Amp vs Preamp Yes both. But often the preamp is sited because it is further up the chain and anything lost or tipped in a particular direction is simply lost to the amp. The preamp is about nuances and small signals… so you want a really good one. So, in this ...
Mood @asctim I am fortunate in not having wide mood swings and/or in not having them effect how music sounds to me. But I have no musical skill in hearing or performance… none, whatso ever. When in high school my best friend was getting into guitars…...
Need some treble What are your speakers?
New DAC issues I guess, first thing would be to get at least 200 hours on the DAC. Some require more… 300 to 400 or more. Most of my components took 600 hours to get really close to their final sound and did not stop improving until 1,000 hours. This is particul... |
